Okay, I did something stupid last night. Because of the schedule being wrong about the ball game (not complaing, it's just how it was), I set up a manual record for 2 hours on the NBC station.


And may I pause to comment on how wonderful Replay was to give me this feature just in time? TYVM.


That was dumb. Now, I want to save the first hour (WW), but not the second (L&O), so I can dump the WW episode to tape for someone in a week or so. Meaning that I'll be tying up an hour's worth of space between now and then with the L&O that could really go.


On a related note: Recording 3.5 hours of Prime Suspect off one of the cable channels. I've watched the first half; I'd like to have that space back now. It came in as a single event, so it's one brick in the schedule.


Any plans on a space reclaiming feature? Something that would let me delete the already-watched portion of a program?

I'd love the functionality you've described. What I'd really love is the ability to cut out bits and pieces of a show (let's say those annoying commecrcials)... so then I could dump a full show w/o commercials off to a VCR or dump it through a capture card to an AVI file . . . which is exactly why I don't think Replay will do such a thing . . .it'll piss of the content providers too much.


Remember back when Replay emphasized that quick skip enabled you to skip commercials? Not only is it no longer in their advertising, but the sales training now mentions the function of QuickSkip is to skip over the boring stuff or timeouts in a sports game . . .no mention of commercials.


While I'd love to see the ability to edit programming, I don't think we'll see real editing, but hopefully we'll see what you are talking about . . cutting some at the start or end and that's it.

I too would like a similar feature: Delete from Beginning to this point/Delete from this point to End. This would give us the ability to preserve a chunk as large or small (maybe even just one report one the nightly news) as we wished. It should be doable the same way the 'Preserve this episode' works, by transfering the portion to be save to a whole new Replay channel.


I don't think the abilty to erase small portions in the middle of recordings (such as commericals) will please the advertising agencies, but being able to erase the first half or second half of a recording probably won't bother anyone too much

I do recall reading somewhere that ReplayTV would be put at great risk if they allowed a "trim" feature allowing parts to be cut out. Advertisers would scream at this.

Ok I have a question on this trim feature. Isn't this a basic VCR feature

to pause out all the commercials that you don't want to see, While recording

live ?.


This Replay/ Show Stopper is a digital type VCR, so why can't we do the

same thing ?. I know it has a skip button but when you dump to VCR you

wouldn't have to baby sit the recording to edit out the commercials.

not to mention save space on the replay as well for other recordings.

This would be nice to have on the digital Replay / Show Stopper.
