Hi,

Since WMV-HD can be played on the computer, I am thinking is it possibly to burn a WMV-HD from miniDV by using some kind WMV-HD codec software?

Sure you can, but MiniDV is only 720x480 so it will hardly be Hi-Def. Of course you can upsample it to 1920x1080 but will still be crappy compared to Hi-Def...

Why not just burn a regular DVD?
how do you do that?!
I actually want to convert my HD recorded on my D-VHS tape to WMV-HD on DVD by firewire data transfer. Do anyone know about Sonic DVD Producer HD? Does this program convert MPEG2 (HD) to WMV-HD? What is the difference between MPEG2 (DVD) and MPEG2 (HD)? is it just data rate different or something else?

The simplest way will be use a dvd recorder with firewire input. You can by one for $150. Of cause you can also use computer with many software available.
As far as transferring DVHS tapes to WMV format-it's a pain in the you-know-what. That having been said I recommend either this guide and/or downloading GordianKnot from Doom. I've gotten the whole thing down to 4 or 5 steps, but it's taken awhile and the learning curve is a bit steep.

I use GK to create an AVSynth file which I drag into VirtualDubMod (GK doesn't let you select WM9 as a compression method), and encode the movie. Takes a couple of days for a 2 hour movie. PM me if you want more details, but playing with the guide I linked to will/should answer most of your questions.

Wow. Disk space is that valuable to you? Or is DVHS a format that you can't play back unless you convert it?

Yes, I can play my D-VHS on my VCR, but I just like the idea to be able to record HD on DVD disk and my recording are normally short (1 hour).
Hi,

You can play WMV-HD dvd on your computer, but why can't burn a WMV-HD on the regular dvd burner? What is the secret?

I'm assuming that this transfer is not possible for all media on D-VHS right? Copy-protected media can't be transferred to a HD ..... or can it?
