New information from PBS WNPT in Nashville in case anyone is interested:

From Louis Talley:

The FCC gave us a November 9 deadline. We are currently on track to meet this. In November, we will at least be broadcasting the PBS digital feed at first, which alternates between PBS programming and what's known as "the loop," which is HD programming PBS has been sending via satellite to demonstrate what HD looks like.

If all goes well, we will be "simulcasting" a digital version Channel 8 on NPT-DT 46 by November 9, and inserting HD versions of PBS programs when they are available from the feed. In the short term, since we do not have the equipment to record and playback HD programs, and can only take the feed directly from satellite, some programs available in HD will not be in our schedule. The next step after installing the new transmitter and DTV encoding equipment is to upgrade our plant for HD and purchase HD capable tape machines. Over time, the DT service will probably become somewhat differentiated from the Channel 8 schedule as more HD programming becomes available.

There are lots of good things in the pipeline. This is a massive (and expensive) retooling, so we're taking it one step at a time, to make sure we do it right the first time.

Just an FYI

According to the new channel lineup sent by Comcast they gave a launch date of "Oct." so who knows when we will get PBS-HD, at least they are providing it. Keep up the good work Comcast.
