BETHPAGE, N.Y., Sept. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Cablevision Systems Corporation CVC today announced a significant expansion of the high-definition programming tier available to iO: Interactive Optimum(R) digital cable customers. Starting today, the tier will include high-definition feeds from HBO, Showtime, MSG Network, Fox Sports Net New York, and the following new additions:

* Thirteen HD, a 24-7 HDTV programming service featuring diverse PBS
programming seen on Thirteen/WNET New York
* A digital simulcast of Thirteen/WNET's local standard-definition
broadcast signal as presented on Channel 13
* Kids Thirteen, a 24-7 digital channel devoted to award-winning PBS
children's programming chosen from the Channel 13 schedule and
time-shifted for more viewing options
* A digital wide screen version of WNYW-5 (FOX), which will transition to
true HD in the near future
"We are very pleased to announce this significant expansion of our high-definition programming tier, with the addition of some of our most popular local broadcast stations," said Kristin Dolan, senior vice president of digital product management. "Combined with our recent launch of high-definition content on demand, iO customers now enjoy a diverse and comprehensive portfolio of HD programming, with much more still to come."
Cablevision recently introduced the industry's first high-definition video on demand service, which includes new release movies and unique titles originally seen in IMAX(R) theaters that have never before been licensed for television. Earlier this year, Cablevision began offering iO customers with high-definition television sets HD-capable converter boxes at no additional cost over the standard box rental fee. High-definition feeds of premium networks are available to all customers who subscribe to the standard-definition version of the networks.
Cablevision's base of iO customers has grown from approximately 42,000 a year ago to nearly 600,000 on June 30. More than 20% of all Cablevision cable customers today are iO digital customers, up from 1.4% penetration a year ago. Cablevision's state-of-the-art digital cable service is available to more than 90% of homes within Cablevision's service area, and all of the company's 4.4 million homes passed will be digital capable by the end of this year.
