If you're going to be importing discs anyway, the Region 3 edition of Hero from Edko has a stellar full bit-rate DTS track that blows the pants off the half-rate DTS track on the Superbit Crouching Tiger, which I used to think sounded pretty good but now sounds sonically dead in comparison.

I agree with everything being said here about Wonderful days. Also bought a copy of the Korean dvd and man was it loud??!! Real gutpunching bass. Although I thought that the sound came mostly from the front soundstage with not as much surround effects as I would have liked. They do come alive once in a while. Listened to the dd 5.1 sound and not the DTS. I actually liked it better than DTS which is pretty rare for me. Thought it sounded a little bit more "wide". Great film. A cool mix of science fiction ideas taken mostly from other movies actually but iut worked for me. And the visuals were amazing. Apparently a mix of cgi, traditional animation, miniature models and real rain and water in some scenes. Looked very cool and unlike anything ever seen. Worth getting.

I don't understand your statement. You say you didn't listen to the DTS track but you liked the DD one better?

I hardly ever find a real difference between DTS and DD anymore. With levels being matched properly, the difference is trivial.

Kris, what I meant was that I listened to both soundtracks for a little while before actually sitting down to watch the movie. It's one of those discs that you can switch between DTS and DD on the fly. Sorry for being unclear, english is not my native language:)

Hello all. New member but have been reading the forums for a while and have enjoyed it.

My question about this movie is that I own a Philips Q50AT (USA) DVD player and was wondering if there was a way to be able to enable it to play this particular DVD, since it is out of region.

The movie looks awesome from the trailer and I would love to view it on my HT. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Well I got the disc in and checked it out. You weren't kidding, the audio for this film is outstanding. I haven't heard surround use this good in quite sometime. Very immersive. The low end is incredible to, clean and very tight.

The video presentation is also outstanding, I didn't notice any kind of compression noise in backgrounds which is very rare on DVD.

The only issue I had with the film was the blending of computer animation with traditional hand drawn. Sometimes it just didn't fit very well. It almost seemed like the hand drawn stuff wasn't near as good as the CG stuff. Not all the time, just in particular scenes, like right before the initial break in. There are a bunch of people at a party but they aren't even moving. They just look like quick drawings that stay static, but the background is breathtaking.

If you have a region free player, definately pick this one up!!!! Thank you very much wallinski for the recommendation.
