Woohoo AE700 it will be a few questions....

Well, I've decided on the AE700 for everyday viewing in my living room. If all goes as planned I should be ready to order it within 2 weeks.

1. Since it will be in my living room there will be some light mainly during the day. How well does this projector for with light? I will have curtains for the most part, but I know sometimes it'd be nice to have a window or 2 open or cracked. Am I asking for trouble? I'm still in the process of deciding on what color to paint the walls. I was thinking 2 walls (including the wall the projector will be on on) will be charcoal and the 2 side walls will be a darker red (interesting combo, but my couch is darker red and I have black carpet) I'm a dark type of person, hehe.

2. My living room area room is 16.5' x 14.5'. The projector will be projected along the 16.5' wall. I will probably ceiling mount or maybe shelf mount along the back wall. If I ceiling mount we are lookin at a 15' throw. I am hoping to go with a 106" screen (still researching the type.... probably $200 budget). Does that sound about right?

3. Where are the best prices for this pj? Please PM me and let me know where I can save a buck or 2.

1. how watchable the projector will depend on how much light you have and how picky you are about the image it produces. any light shining directly on the screen will wash out the image. while it may be watchable during the day with a slight amount of light entering the room that's not what these projectors are meant for.

2. you will have no problem projecting a 106" diagonal image from 15'.

3. check with the forum sponsors at the top of the page.

At what distance would 106" diagonal be a problem? It would be more convenient if I could shorten that throw and make the room look better. Oh yea, my seating will probably be at 11-13' away from the screen.
i'm pretty sure you can project up to 110" or so from as little as 11 feet. check the projector throw calculator from projectorcentral.com

According to the throw calculator at Projector Central ( link ) you can throw a 106" diagonal image from anywhere between 10.7' - 21.4' away.
Awesome based on that calculator with a 106' screen. I can use a 12.9' throw and recommended seating is 11--17'. That works out almost perfectly for me, but would the quality be good at those settings?
Generally speaking, you would want to use as little zoom as possible. Geometry can be affected at higher zooms (though this is usually imperceptible). There was another reason but I forget.

I just installed mine:

PJ is 19' away from 106" Dalite HCMW screen in a dark room.

Seating is 14' - looks great! Would I want to be any closer? Probably not. Consider a 92" screen for closer seating, but that's personal pref.

I read that the longer the throw distance the better. I think it has to do with the angles of the reflected light off the screen.

In my case, the 19' was a fixed element (bookcase). With high ceilings, it was either the bookcase at 19' or the coffee table (bad idea for me).

I couldn't be happier with my setup - but it's only two days old. If I read too many of these posts, I'll start to see all the bad stuff everyone describes. Sometimes ignorance is bliss.
