I just saw PREY on sale for $5 bucks for the PC and it got me thinking that this game ranks as the least fun I have ever had with an FPS, and I tend to try them ALL. Its also the only game I paid money for ($10 bucks for Prey) that I could not bring myself to finish, even forcing myself through levels just to see the eye-candy....cheating to get all the (lame) weapons....I grew so bored I uninstalled and tossed the disc in the trash.

The odd thing is, the game was pretty..but I hated so many aspects of it that it was just toilet-bound for me.

The worst, of course, is that I absolutely hated the shallow douchebag I was trying to play. At a certain point in the game you would expect him to start "turning himself around"...but nooo he still keeps on with the "Shut up old man, I need to rescue my girlfriend!" crap and I was like "Wow..I...I actually want this guy to DIE! Can I play as an alien and blast his ass into space?".

I also hated the really lame assortment of "Bio Weapons" I had to deal with, I thought their sound stunk, and I thought their feel also stunk...they just weren't any fun to use. The main gun you are stuck with sounds like someone hitting a SNARE drum every time you pull the trigger. The later weapons didn't get much better, either. "Oh look a big...slug cannon minigun thing....kill me now".

Lastly, I really hated how the game would try to shock you with horror at some times (Little kids being killed, any parent knows thats tough to watch even when its pretend)...and then watching people die gruesome deaths....but then, 2 seconds later, your idiot character is making funny quips...and then the aliens are like "YEEAAAH!" when they turn on Judas Priest in the teleported Bar. The whole game was a writing MESS and only further alienated me.

Prey is, by far, the worst FPS I have ever played..that I really wanted to like. To its credit I think its use of the little in-game hover vehicles was cool (if limited), and it had what I consider to be nice graphics...wasted on endlessly repetitive "same ****" design...sad, could have been so much cooler if they'd just varied the terrain a bit.

I dunno....Quake 4 was also 5 bucks and it ALSO ranks as some of the least fun I've ever had with a FPS....but its alot better than PREY.

Dunno..what say you all?

Prey multiplayer is fun with a bunch of friends at a LAN.

I was almost finished with the single player when my hard drive died. Had to start over from the beginning after a reinstall.

Now Lost Planet I gave up on after the first 20 minutes!

I didn't hate Prey. I don't think the writing was any worse than say Crysis or any other number of titles. At the same time, I don't think it was amazing in any way, but not THAT bad. Check out the last Turok (or I'd guess ANY Turok!)...That's some cheese writing, voice acting and character portrayal!

I liked 'Prey' I think they are making a sequel even. They used some voices from Coast to Coast that amused me and went well with the alien abductions. The gameplay was solid...there was no real consequence for dieing if I recall correctly; that could have been better...

I also liked 'Quake 4'; I think 'Quake Wars' was a let-down though; unless you can assemble some good teams.

'Turok'...yep not a fan of those either.

'Daikatana' was a disappointment, but I had some fun multiplayer experiences with it.

'Painkiller', I have not been able to get into this one.

Although it was pretty obscure, so it sort of doesn't count, the worst I ever played was Mortyr II.

Second worst would be Call of Cthulhu. Great integration of the Lovecraft mythology into the storyline, but utterly broken gameplay at nearly every turn. Stealth, platforming, timed puzzles, all just terrible.

As far as bad writing, and over the top vulgarity and violence, I am currently playing GTA San Andreas on the PC and getting the same feeling. Although I love the cars and the driving, the dialogue is really horrendous. And the GTA humor has fizzled to about 99% penis and ejaculation jokes. I'll still give IV a try if it comes out for PC though.

Didn't mind Prey so much .

I remember one where you played some space doctor escorting some plague immune chick across some weirdo planet populated by muppets. Deeply unsatisfying gameplay , terrible storyline...one of the few games i gave up on.

Can't even remember the name of the damn thing.

Useless.

Just google it...Pariah... worst FPS ever.

Turok Evolution on the xbox was dire too.

The correct answer is Duke Nukem Forever.

And to think. Prey was in development for 8-10 years!

Its funny, but the fact that Prey was actually released gives me a microscopic grain of hope that Duke Nukem Forever may actually see the light of day. I remember when the previews for Prey were making the gaming magazine rounds and the excitement over the "portal" technology, which was soon implemented (note that I did not say "ripped off") in the first Unreal by Digital Extremes.

Anyway, the worst FPS ever was Extreme Paintbrawl; to quote Gamespot online: "All things considered, Extreme Paintbrawl is perhaps one of the worst games I've seen in years, as much out of touch with reality as it is out of step with the gaming world at large." Ouch! PC Gamer gave it a 6/100...I still laugh when I think about that magazine review. Wikipedia has a page on it here .

The worst FPS I have personally played was Kingpin. Buggy, did not offer anything new, and the swearing got old really quick. I remember seeing the bad guys just run in circles when they were alerted...round and round...round and round...until I sunk a cap in their [email protected]!X*% just to end the misery of it all.

Extreme Paintbrawl doesn't count because it was a game nobody played, it was also broken the day it was released.....so it can't count
there's plenty of $10.00 Walmart shovelware out there that gives Painbrawl a run for its money.

As for Kingpin, I thought Kingpin was pretty cool, all things considered....I never finished it, but the game did offer new things to the FPS world..like hiring bodyguards!

Oh--forgot about hiring bodyguards. Yeah, that was something cool.

Yeah, sometimes I think I should go back to the games I never finished, put them at the easiest difficulty setting, and just blast through them just to get them over with...but time is a more valuable commodity than the few dollars I spent on those bad games
Maybe in 20 years those old CD's will have some value as collectors items...eh, maybe not

"I vote Crysis. System requirements are ridiculous."

That's like saying Ferraris are terrible because your bank account won't support one. Bad logic.

Prey wasn't particularly great but it wasn't even close to the worst FPS game ever. Some of the worse ones were already mentioned here such as Kingpin and Mortyr, but there is also Daikatana, Strife, Turok Evolution, Contract JACK, Postal 2, etc. etc.

BTW I dont think Prey was in development for 10 years like Too Human or Duke Nukem Forever. It was cancelled and picked up a few years ago. The current version we ended up getting had a fairly normal development time IIRC.

Rebecca Romjin is the worst ever. Because of all the restraining orders.

On Prey: I liked it. Fun but forgettable. I agree the guy is an ******* though.

On Crysis: While this may not apply to everyone, I get the feeling that a good portion of the people who thought it was boring are 'making it boring'. If you play it like a bog standard FPS, you will get only that. If you like to dick around with the physics and AI, using the nano-suit, you may well have a great laugh.

Storywise, it is a bit 'meh' I will agree.

Yeah, first time I saw such RPG like elements incorporated into a shooter, and the Bagman multipalyer mode is sheer greatness that I'd love to see revived in a more modren game.
