I can't comment on the quality of the HD86 and HD87. But I just went from a H79 to a 8700UB. The H79 had good picture quality, but the support provided by Optoma leaves a lot to be desired. The units were also problem prone. You would be taking a huge step back in terms of manufacturer support.

I have seen the HD87 and it made me consider DLP and not just DILA :)

Yup.

There's a reason why nearly ALL digital cinemas now use DLP...

I have seen the Sony 4k's used almost as much as DLP's, but not sure about 3D, I'm sure it's mostly DLP.

Was chatting to cinema install company the other day.

They said that here in Australia, it's now 99% DLP, and Sony's left the market here.

Wonder how it compares around the world...

Not sure, all I know is that out of the last 4 movies I saw at the theater (1 was Sony, and 3 were DLP I think). LCOS doesn't have much advantage at the theater because commerical LCOS projectors really don't have that much better native on/off than commerical DLP's (due to the huge amount of lumens they are both pumping out). They are a little more contrasty.

Don't want to go off topic here - but the Sony 4K LCOS presentations I've seen thus far have had noticeably inferior contrast against the best DLPs.
