I am just wondering since my cable HD channels seem to have better black level than my Panasonic BluRay player. My lcd is Sony XBR4.

no... its probably the film transfer, lots of movies don't have perfectly black blacks. Or maybe some RGB range issue.

While playing a BD, lower the brightness until the black bars on the movie don't get any darker.

No. A calibration would be the thing to do.

Agree with the replies given but also if the cable is the least bit suspect go with one from Monoprice, one of our sponsors, who has top notch cable for lowest prices around. I would go with the top of the line 1.3 compliant.
