Would a single connection between projecto and scaler be useful?

The original InFocus HT projector press releases discussed a "hub" which would act as a source switch. The selected video source would then be sent to the projector via a single connection. It was even reported that the connection woud be digital with upto 30 meter length. That would be great, a digital connection from the source (via DVI) to the hub then the projector, the signal is never analog. Now that InFocus has announced their product, the hub is no longer there. Is the idea of a single connection to run to the projector a good idea?

I'd like to see some more participants in this survey. If I can get a pretty good data set, I'll give the results to the head of product development at InFocus and Toshiba. Maybe they'll be able to get the hub box in production. I know it's not a scientific survey, but I think it might make for some good ammo.

If nothing else, maybe another manufacturer will see the poll and keep it in mind for future designs.

I like the idea of a single digital cable but I'm betting the copy protection police would have a large concern with this.
I voted for all cables. The advantage is connectivity - whatever interface the new device has, you can immediately use it, and decide while using it what the long term plan is.

On my VT-540 I ran composite, S-video, and VGA cables. The composite and S-video are switched by my A/V receiver - including game consoles, S-VHS, and analog cable box. The wife prefers to watch and listen without using the HTPC, and "all cables" preserves that option.

Huck,

As long as the digital stream is encrypted it would be ok. Also, if they made some sort of proprietary scheme and didn't give out the specs that might be ok.
