Most likely, that JBL studio center has some serious drivers...

I have never heard either though ...
what do u mean serious drivers?

anyone else?
My opinion? Yes. However, let your ears decide and go with whichever makes you happiest.
ANYTHING is better then Bose. Seriously, Bose is truly awful, I would not wish those speakers on my worst enemy.

Have you heard the 701s?

Carl Edwards, Jeff Gordon...guys like that.

A "driver" is a raw speaker; a woofer, midrange, or tweeter. The better quality the drivers are, the better the speaker system is likely to be, although that's just one parameter.

No, he meant Michael Schumacher, Jackie Icks, Carol Shelby, Jacques Villaneuve, Kimmi Reikonnen, Jackie Stewart, Sterling Moss, Fernando Alonso, Mario Andretti...in NASCAR there are only four or five that can race anything, Gordon being one of them.

Ups! This is about speakers...OP, you have posted about this in about two different forums, and three different threads. Keep the 701's they are a good speaker. Lots of people here have never heard of 301, 701, 801, or 901. When you have at least $2K, then upgrade, but if you are going to upgrade just to upgrade, or because someone said your system was Bose and it sucks, then you are in the wrong path. You don't have cubes, wave, or whatever other gimmick Bose mass markets. 701 is a decent speaker, not the best, but good and not worth upgrading based on $500.00 more.

You will get the JBL center, and you will not like it because it does not sound right with your mains, or you will not like your mains because they don't sound right with your center. Wait, until you can upgrade all three to something in the same series, and actually worth it.
I don't recall anyone every expressing disappointment with the Studio series when driven by a competent AVR. But I agree that they should be bought as a set, not one piece at a time. And should have 100w/ch minimum.
I used to own the JBL S38 series for my mains and the S-center (traded them for Deftech BP7001sc and DT center, I have to say the JBL's were awesome for movies, they played extremely loud without any problems, and once you pair them with a descent sub, you will have more bass than you will ever need for an average size room. I actually hated parting with them, but got a great deal on the DefTechs and sold them to a buddy who was getting started in HT and he loves em.

I also agree anything is better than Bose. Even radioshack speakers have a better frequency response than Bose.

Now be reasonable. You are simply jumping on the "Bose bashing bandwagon." I currently have a complete JBL L series set-up in the living room and have owned numerous Bose-201s, 301s, 401s, and 501s. I actually thought both the 301s and the 501s were decent. I am not an audiophile and feel Radioshack has produced some decent speakers over the years. The Lineaum (SP?) tweeter speakers were very popular for awhile. Radioshack barely sells a/v equipment. they seem to cater to cell phones, i-pods, and some cabling.
You could ask "Would _________ be better than a Bose system?" and the answer would be "yes, definitely" regardless of what the blank is filled in with.
In the most part Bose is junk, but people bashing this thread have never heard most of their 01 line up, and cannot backup their comments. I've never owned Bose, I haven't even considered buying Bose. But, I am 39, and have been interested in audio systems since I was 14, when my uncle had Marantz everything, and my dad had Onkyo with Yamaha speakers, back when Yamaha did very well reviewed speakers. Bose back then had decent stuff, and that is what the 01 series is about. Bose didn't change much of their technology and decided to pursue their acoustic breakthroughs with mass marketing, products that appealed to the buyer, but with cheap components and leaving behind what they first started. Their technology is nothing new, except for sizes available, and to me it is outdated technology.

But, that doesn't mean that once upon a time Bose used to make decent sounding speakers. Get informed prior to believing everything you read here.

OP will be better off saving more funds to when the time is appropriate get something much better than his 701's. JBL is a good alternative, but don't know if the Studios are worth upgrading to, as SQ difference will only be minor.

To me the only people who make more unfounded claims than the person who says "My Bose system is the best because it's Bose." are the people who claim "Everything is better than Bose no matter what. Even the toy speaker in those new musical greeting cards are way better than bose."

The 701 speaker is not nearly as bad as you people make it out to be. This is NOT a tiny cube speaker. The Bose bookshelf (edit: and larger) speakers are fairly respectable in my opinion. Overpriced? Yes of course. Can you get better speakers for the money? Yes of course. The biggest drawback of the Bose speakers right now is that they were not designed for a surround sound world. These speakers were designed in the time of stereo sound. In the stereo world imaging and directionality are not as big of a concern. Instead these speakers were designed to produce a large sound stage. Hence the purposeful rear reflecting. The idea is that it makes a little room sound like a big room. This way you can create the effect of say a concert hall from your two closely placed stereo speakers. Again this kills a lot of imaging and directionality; this is coincidentally similar to a dipole surround speaker.

Honestly though people the X01 series speakers from Bose are not THAT bad, and they are completely different than the Acoustimax jewel speakers that I'm sure you all are thinking about.

I have heard the 301s and 901s and yes, they are that bad. I replaced my brother's 301s with entry-level Athenas, and he said it was like hearing all his music for the first time. I A/Bed 901s with $220/pr Bostons and it was no contest.
In the late '80s when I was around 18 I remember listening to some Bose 901s at the local Sassafras store. At the time I was a good musician and a novice audio engineer but knew very little about higher end consumer audio. In other words almost any speakers over $300 sounded pretty good to me.

Still, with very fresh ears but very little auditioning experience I thought the 901s sounded all right at low volumes, but the bass was very unnatural and "gimmicky" while the upper mids and highs sounded harsh and very nasty at mid to higher volumes. If someone had given me a set I probably would have immediately sold them to buy something better.

AFAIK the 01 line hasn't changed much since then. I guess if you already have a set and like them, might as well hang onto them until you can afford something you'll really like, and yes, a matched front 3 set at least would be advisable. As for the JBL Studio series, I haven't heard them but I've never liked any consumer line JBLs I've heard. It's probably worth auditioning them but I'd definitely do more research before buying. Their pro stuff has always been good though not my style (tends toward bright), and their really old big standmount lines like the '70s era Horizon line were fantastic for the time.

I never realized that those go cart drivers could handle a real car. They haven't done so well in NASCAR.

I actually thought drivers were like Taylor Made, Calloway, Ping, etc.
