Would the PS2 just kindly die? (not a fanboy rant)

Honestly I just got my fancy high-def projector and I've been getting all excited about finally entering next-gen, I was planning on starting with the 360 and Wii then getting a PS3 when more good games started rolling out for it (probably by December). The problem is my PS2 won't let me, I thought FFXII would be my PS2's last hurrah (which I still haven't finished) but then I ended up playing Bully and Okami which were both amazing, then Rogue Galaxy came out and I never even got around to that, then God of War 2 came out and blew me away, and now I have Tomb Raider Anniversary, Odin Sphere, and Grim Grimoire all staring me in the face. I don't know whether to be thrilled because all these games are amazing and some of the best gaming experiences I've had in years or annoyed that my PS2 just won't die like my Gamecube and X-Box and allow me to move on. Is there an end in sight or is the PS2 going to chain me to last gen for a long time to come? And why can't these developers who are making these amazing games bring me these kind of experiences in beautiful high-def next gen graphics on the PS3? Well obviously Squeenix and SCE Santa Monica are but how come all I'm seeing on next-gen consoles are shooters (albeit great looking shooters) and all the innovative goodness is on the PS2? At that I think there are PS2 games coming out that look better than some next gen games because of their art style (Okami and Odin Sphere come to mind), and is just me or is anyone else sick of the Unreal 3 engine?

Hey, just be grateful. Taking away these great games that were developed for the last gen won't speed up development of current gen games. Some of these games were in development for years. Trust me, you don't want gaming companies rushing out games. Its always been this way, it usually takes 2 or 3 years before the really great games show up on a new system. In the meantime, enjoy what you can from the previous system.

Further, I'm happy that the PS2 is still going strong. There are a ton of people out there that won't be buying a new system for a couple years or even longer. And anyway, you dont have to buy the games if you dont want to.
yo are you kidding me? your getting your money's worth...you GOT to be buggin, its making good game after good game and your want it to stop? what kind of stupid stuff is that? people start buggin out if a system has no good games and dont last long, and now theres a console that has good game aftger good game and lasts forever and they still complain i mean yall MUST be kids or somethin....your getting full value of your money...my mind is just blown after readin that bunch of garbage you wrote...you must have been tired and bored or somethin.....your complaint is just not understandable...you WANT your system to do badly? and die out? what kind of doo doo is that?

you truly disgusted me with this thread .......truly.....so im guessing you'll be hoping the ps3 dies out in 6-7 years or so too huh...im guessin if the ps3 keeps on dropping sick game after sick game you'll want it to stop huh....you'll want it to fade away huh...

I think I died a little inside after reading this. Do people still say 'buggin' nowadays?

I think its like when you are breaking up with someone, you want to wish them well, and are thankfull for what you had, but you also hope they go away quietly.

When you find out they are still "putting out" the "good looking" stuff you want to go back to them not forward.

There is no reason for the PS2 to die out. As long as companies have state of the arts hardware for those willing to pay for it why complain about continued support for another system? Its not really hurting anything as the developers making games for the PS2 are either making PS3 versions or would not bother to.

Its not like the people who own $129 PS2's are running out to get PS3s!
I don't want the Ps2 to die, if it did I have nothing good to play on my PS3.
Not everyone has 600 bucks to spend on a new console that has very few games worth playing and has bugs galore. The PSone was still in production for how long into the PS2's life cycle? I think that's a sign...
