Hi,

I've got a BG808 which I bought from Terry F. this January. It had around 42000 hrs on it but Terry retubed it and it works great. I know Barco's chassis's are very well built and can last from 50 to 100 thousand hrs trouble free. But you never know. One reason I went with a Barco was because of how modular the chassis is.

Ocasssionally you see these "bargain" 808's go on Ebay for less than $1000. Would it be worth it to take a chance and buy one of these hoping that you would at least get some good boards for replacements? I wouldn't care what the tubes look like. My other service choices would of course be Curt P. or probably my first choice would be Eric Lang and Projection Systems which is only about 4 hrs away from me.

What do you think? How many of you have a "parts" pj waiting in the wings?

Doug,

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure my mum used to say to me. Would be nice to find a fried one (CRT wise) that had good electronics for the right price. Better to have it when (and if) you need it than be scrambling looking for one if something goes out.
