I would never buy an open box of anything for that kinda money. If im spending that much money. You can bet your dollar its going to be brand new. Not open box or refurbished. Thats just mo though.
How much is it? I would hesitate to buy any open box items, simply because they dont take care of the stuff in the stores and most of the time the item is banged up. Not to mention the possible burn-in and wear on it, if it's running high contrast 24/7.

It really depends on the condition of it, I would check for any external damage and also check what contrast it's been running on.. and the price plays a part and also the return policy.

$1200.00 for an open Box XBR 960 - they claim it's just been put out ...

Burn in on a CRT?

I get the same 2 year Warranty as I would if new

What does the contrast have to do with it?

Thank you.

The higher the contrast, the greater chance there would be damage to the TV. As the picture gets brighter, the TV has to work harder. Having a high (over 50% contrast) setting would cause premature tube failure.

Would you want to buy a used car that has been run at 120mph for the last 2 years? I don't think so. Buying a TV set at high contrast would be like doing the above.
Spoke to a guy at CC he said they run these TV's (display models) 15 plus HRS a day sometimes - and 7 DFays a week - So when you buy a floor model - you're buying a TV that has definite wear on it...he kinda gave me a skeptical tone as well -almost telling me I'm rolling the dice. :(

No way in hell am I paying $1200.00 after hearing that....

It's the last good tube TV you'll ever see.

CC has that 30 day satisfaction guarantee where you can return an item for any reason. Does this apply to an open box TV? If so, it's worth a shot and you might just end up with a great TV. If not, return it and resign yourself to getting a plasma :D
Yeah they have an open box 960xbr at my CC too along with an open box 970xbr, they are both around $999. I'm hoping (big hope) that it's still there in 2 weeks when I have enough money to buy it, even though I've seen it there the past 3-4 weeks. If anything I'll just buy a year warranty on it.
