I haven't read too many specs on receivers these days, but it's one of the first that I know of that has component video inputs/outputs.

Does anybody know what the retail price is going to be on the AVR-5800? rv...there are currently at least four manufactures making a/v receivers that feature component in/outs, but the quality of the switchers in these receivers are quite poor for use with high resolusion sources.

Hi-Tec,

I'm running HDTV through the component switches on my Yamaha RX-V1 with no perceivable degradation in the signal. I would hope the Denon 5800 will perform equally as well to the RX-V1. My Denon 5700 (I just sold it) had a component switch, but could not pass HDTV cleanly. In fact, its manual specifically said not to switch HDTV.

I live nearby B&K and have stopped in to talk with those folks and can also tell you that their new 307 will switch component HDTV. So, there is hope. I think your statement may be limited to the first batch of AV receivers with component switching. The second/third generation of these products all seem to be getting with the program.

Regards,

Tom

The AVR-5800 looks great and it includes a remote. According to the model info pages on the denon web site, the AVR-5800 includes the Aktis RC-8000 remote control. Does anyone know anything about this remote? Does it do what the Pronto does?

Hi-Tec,

I have been told by a my local dealer that cost will

start at around $3400.

Should drop fast as Denon is going to place this

Trump 5800 card all over Denon and Sony.

stephenC,

The remote is brand new.

I have not yet got my hands on one to test

Did you find the pfd info file on Denon?

Check it out.

The upcoming Denon Aktis RC-8000 remote is featured in a large 2-page add in both this months issues of Sound & Vision and Sterephile Guide to Home Theater magazine. This Aktis's LCD screen has the same 240X320 resolution and many of the same features as the Pronto. Plus with the RC-8001 battery charger/RF base station module, the Aktis can transmit RF remote codes which is something the Pronto can not do. Check it out... http://www.del.denon.com/aktis/overview.asp
