I just got off the phone with engineering at WQED. They hope to be up and running by the end of the month. The most recent problem was getting the new antenna in place. It requires a big helicopter and calm winds, and today they tried but it was just too windy.

It will be a few more weeks, but start looking for a signal on channel 38 later this month.

I'm fairly sure that it will be a full-power broadcast, but I'll verify that.

Good news:

The tower went up this morning, and with any luck there will be a signal going out tomorrow sometime. It may not be full power, but it won't be "flea" power like WPGH either. We shall see.

It's 7:53 a.m....still no 38. What I get, in fact, is a snowy, analog like signal...probably is until they light it up...ya think?

I was surprised to hear that myself, but that is indeed what they told me.

Nothing here either. They must have had some trouble (or just decided it was too nice a day to go to work.) :)

Just got off the phone with Paul Byers, Director of Engineering at WQED. Evidently the folks I talked to in the control room last week were a little optimistic. All the hardware is in place except for a satellite receiver that allows them to show actual programming. Paul said that should arrive shortly and they should be up and running by the 31st, testing occasionally before then. They'll start up at about 60,000 watts, and that should get out about 30 miles or so.

Dave...I think it's pretty amazing that titantv.com knew something that the first folks you spoke with didn't...apparently. And, what they had initially told you of coming on at FULL power is what I had hoped for because what they're saying now likely won't be received by me. Oh well...time will tell.

Thanks a bunch for the update.
