Just got an update from the program director for CBS affiliate in Toledo, WTOL:

We're in the middle of testing right now, and have been doing limited broadcasting in HDTV. In the next couple weeks we should be on the air at more predictiable intervals. For specifics, please e-mail our chief engineer, Eric Bergman.

Thanks,

Steve Israel

Director of Operations

WTOL-TV

I sent an email to Bergman and will pass on whatever I hear from him.

You guys in Detroit should be able to pick this one up when it comes on.

I was doing a rescan of digital channels on WEdnesday night and my Dish 6000 picked up channel 17. I knew this was WTOL. However, when I went to that channel, I found Wheel of fortune playing (same episode as WDIV) and I was confused. Yesterday, I watched "The Agency" and it seemed to be in HD. The audio was softer than WWJ.

BTW, I'm not able to lock into Channel 39. Are they along the same line of sight as the others?

Thanks.

WTOL is CBS in Toledo, DTV 17 & analog 11.

WDIV is NBC in Detroit, DTV 45, analog 4.

WNWO is NBC in Toledo, DTV 49, analog 24.

Wheel is a syndicated program that both WDIV & WTOL carry. M-F 7pm.

WADL is Fox Kids in Mt. Clemens, MI, DTV 39 & analog 38.

From Ann Arbor, it should be in the same compass bearing area, e.g. 55-75 degrees, as the Detroit stations. I have noticed it has been on & off the air in the last few days.

Thanks Bob. This is all news to me (good news of course) 'cause I pretty much gave up on "The Big 3" seven years ago when I installed DirecTV. Perhaps time to start thinking about an HDTV.

TJ at Jamiesons in Toledo said that he thought ABC (WTVG) had indicated that they would at least start trial broadcasting as early as June 1. As far as Fox (WUPW) , I heard sometime this summer. WTOL is still very spotty. Last week there was a couple of nights with the primetime HD schedule, but so far I haven't seen it on at all this week. Has anyone else noticed that they are playing with broadcasting the black bars and then not. Their non HD content looks no better than their analog broadcast when they do not broadcast the bars.

True. But I still need the HDTV to reap the benefits.
