I'm using a SB X-FI Extreme Music card on Windows XP, trying to hook it up via toslink ( mini -> optical ) to my Denon AVR 3805 receiver.

I have been scouring the internet for help on this, but haven't been able to find anything that works.

The minijack is plugged into the 'flexijack' port, and in the sounblaster console (entertainment mode) I told it to use the flexijack in Digital IO mode. The optical end is plugged into Opt-3 on my Denon and I set VCR-1 to Opt-3.

Windows sounds don't work, DVD sounds don't work, mp3 music via Media Monkey doesn't work.

Starting to wonder if I have a bad cable or something...anyone have ideas on how to make this work? Should I be using the Digital output jack on the card ( i tried this too but couldn't get that to work either ).

please help!

Following up on my post.

Apparently SOME of the Soundblaster Xfi cards can use a mini-toslink to toslink adapter to get optical to your receiver, and some cards you need the Digital I/O Module available from creative ( or something similar to convert ).

Not particularly clear which card is which anywhere I looked. Apparently you can look into the hole of the jack and see some glowing red light, but i'm not 100% sure thats the only way to tell.

I just ordered the I/O Module, hopefully it works. I'll post back here with my feedback.
