1. SP4805

2. ~12x18

3. mounting distance? (I guess how far back from screen): ~13ft

4. 92" HCMW

5. a little under 17ft. (about 2.5x back)

6. walls and ceiling painted dark green, ND2 filter, HTPC pixel-mapped @ 848x480 - 47Hz, TT 2.0.6 with ffdshow post-processor

I'm sorry my measurements are not exact. I installed it months ago and can't remember exact measurements. But here's a little advice - whatever screen size you decide on, mount the pj as far back as possible while within your range (ie with zoom at smallest possible setting - that way you will have it perfectly centered and the image will be the sharpest.

3. 11.5

6. Painting the ceiling & walls dark earth tone colors and my PQ stock went waaaay up! I can't suggest it enough.

Interesting survery....

1. SP4805 (or SP7205 or SP4800 or NECHT1100)

2. 13'x18'

3. 10'

4. 60" diag Vutec SilverStar

5. 14'

6. KRAS MUZIK trade secret....

1. X1

2. 14'x17'

3. About 15.5-16ft from lens to screen.

4. 9ft diagonal 16:9 Silver PVC screen with 12 guage frosted vinyl overlay.

5. 16ft

6. Silver PVC screen with frosted vinyl overlay. Darkens the blacks and brightens the whites. Colors are more vivid too. Great contrast enhancing screen. It's also far superior to white screens in ambient light. Holds up well against the great & very expensive SilverStar screen and blows it away in when their is ambient light present. The downfall is the screen does not have a wide viewing angle.

BTW, if you're interested in improving your pj even further you can also greatly enhance the contrast of both projectors by performing a simlple and reversable iris mod. I hear that it nearly doubles the contrast. They're usually only found on the more expensive projectors.

1. X1

2. 12X13 (Actual room extends back to 20'. The extra area holds a stairwell and the A/V equipment.)

3. 12' from lens to screen.

4. 80" 4:3 screen using a Felt-Velcro system for masking each aspect ratio - most bang for buck this way. And blacks look blacker when the letterbox area is invisible.

5. 8 to 10 feet. I see slight SDE at 8 feet but lately I haven't noticed it so I stay at 8 feet now. Wife always likes the closer distance.

6. Biggest improvements would be dark walls and ceiling in a windowless basement HT. The masking system is a big help. And my DVD player is a panny RP-62 which has the faroudja deinterlacer. I've also started using an HTPC and I'm very happy with the results.

It's amazing what quality we can all achieve these days. Technology seems to be really leapfrogging.

1. SP4805

2. Room is 10.5 x 14.5

3. Lens is 12.5 ' from screen

4. DIY Screen is 82" diag / 72" width HCCV

5. Seating is 11.5' back (1 foot from pj makes significant noise reduction)

6. Black ceiling tiles, slate color front wall, muted green side walls.

As others have noted, light control and ceiling/wall color make or break PQ.

2. Room is ~3.2x4.5m

3. ~3.8m

4. DIY screen 2x1.5m currently used width 180cm

5. biggest seating distance is ~4m

6. Projector is DIY-cat-eye-iris modded; ND2-filter; FL-D-filter; screen-half of room is painted in very dark blue; manual screen masking system made from black molton; PJ front grill painted flat-black (inside and outside) to reduce straylight; black curtain at ceiling in front of PJ to catch rest of straylight from front grill.

With the exception of my screen width and dimensions the given sizes are estimates...

wow I really appreciate it. I also never imagined a 11 by 22 room would be too small for a theater, i think i might jsut have to scrap the idea and buy a projection tv.
how aobut i post a drawing of my room and you guys ahve at it as far as designs go?

It isn't. It's larger than many of the rooms posted in this thread.
I am wanting to put two rows in and by looking at everyones distance from the screen it looked as if i wouldnt be able to do it
1) X-1

2) "L" shaped basement room, 12x20x8 high & 12x10 bar area offset at the rear. The HT takes up 12x17 of the main area with stairway A/V gear and direct view TV behind a pull down screen.

3) 12' from projector to screen

4) 78" 4x3 Dalite matte white

5) 14' from screen is my preference, wife sits 10' back

6) ceiling tiles directly above and extending 5' in front of screen sprayed flat black, blackout cloth from ceiling to the top of viewing area just in front of screen, complete light control with blackout cloth curtains installed behind drapes of basement windows.

All in all a very satisfactory budget video display for both DVD & cable movies/sports. As mentioned by Cyrano I think you can make your room size work. Just be sure to plan it out so there are no surprises when building or installing the components.

More details, please. Is there a thread about this?
Yup, there are several threads detailing how to install a DIY iris. I don't think that it doubles the contrast unless you go with a very small iris, but 30-50% improvement is without a doubt possible. I once measured my X1 and it was around 1.5k, so still well below a factory 4805...

have this thread move to Home Theater Builder section if you want room drawing comments. They love that stuff - they are redesigning a guys basement right now!
Hrmm... DIY iris... sounds like something worth giving a try (sounds like it would void warranty though)... sigh... will have to wait til after warranty is over.

Cheers...
