Hey,quick questions i havent found satisfactory answers to in my searchs so far.I was looking at the benq 6100 till i discovered it wouldnt be a really great choice for the sd stuff i have.So between the x1 and the h-30,which seems to be a better machine for vhs and sd tv?I do watch a decent ammount of it...Along with the dvd's.I'm a little concerned about the rainbows on the x1,but also curious if the h-30 is gonna be bright enough?I think i can put some shades up that will block the majority of the light from the two windows, but there may be a little bit yet....at night no big deal.screen space is about 65" wide for now. When i have a dedicated theater room I'll jump to about 90-100" diagonal screen. The plan is paradigm monitor 9's,a cc-370,and mini monitors. Those will be powered by my 333es,the sub is a velodyne ct120.So is the couple hundred for the h-30 worth it?or is the sweet chip in the x1 better for the standard def stuff?Thanx for the help :)

The H30 actually has an excellent de-interlacer [ pretty much on par with the X1 DCDi ] . However the H30 is brighter than the X1 [ when you turn off the White Segment of the X1 ] and it throws a better image [ better contrast and black level ] . The H30 also has a faster color-wheel [ 4x ] with 6 segments [ RGBRGB ] so it is much better regarding RBE [ rainbows ] and color reproduction is superior . If you add all this up I am certain you will see that the H30 is certainly worth a couple hundred more than the X1 ;) .

Jason said it all eloquently. New users have to understand the much better color you get with the RGB/RGB wheel. Hey doulble the colors on the wheel double the color quality. :)

The H30 is designed for Home Theater, with HT features galore. I was on the look out for a new projector with HT design, the DD rate chip, &RGB/RGB wheel. At the time I had a Sharp DT200 (same idea) but I didn't like the bold screen door it had. I took a chance on what I saw from pictures that the H30 would have a faint SVGA screen door and it does. So for me problem solved. The DT200 went goodbye, the H30 stayed home. :)

You have to understand that $200 is nothing. I would consider the H30 over any presentation model for at $500 difference, the 6200 included.

I'm defiantly leaning towards the h-30,as you said a couple hundred is no big deal...I could see a major problem if it was 6-700 more...plus a lower bulb life, and a more expensive bulb but....ive heard alot of good things about the h-30 so far,and if it can turn out a decent picture with vhs considering the source then, its prolly going to get my vote....as a first projector i doubt i'll complai

since i have a good ammount of 4:3 stuff,I was thinking i would get a 4:3 screen to fill up the space i will be using, and then 16:9 would be fit into the width of the 4:3 screen....which btw,how does the h-30 looking on wide screen?Does it do the same thing a tv would?Just black bar on the top and bottom?Right now my space is limited to about a 60-65" width on the screen.

Then the 4.3 screen will give you the biggest pictures you can get. The 16.9 material will be at the bottom or top of the screen, according to the firmware. C05 it will be at the bottom, C07 it will be at the top. You would use 16.9native a 800X480 pixel arrangement for you 16.9 images. On the plus side 16.9 will be about 5" more diagonal over other displays, like the X1 or 6100, 4805 etc.

enjoy

For someone who doesn't have thousands to throw around 1500$ for the H30 can be kind of steep over the 769$ you would pay for a X1 just for a 4x color wheel. But I guess I was just lucky that I don't see any kind of rainbows whatsoever even with a 2x color wheel.

No use bantering prices, we all should know the real time prices by now and it's too close to pass up a fine machine to settle for ok.

When I shop and talk to myself :) I say hmmm I'm at a grand if I just spring for a few bills more I can get the ultimate item. I do it all the time, saves from worrying that you made a mistake. Plus no need to want to upgrade.

I'm having that shopping problem for speakers right now....found a set of performance series of paradigms for 440,phantoms,cc170,titans...but i really like the monitor series....cost me an easy twice the price....i think i will use the monitor 7's rather then 9's though...I'm going to audition them both when i go to purchase.

I was not aware the H30 could be had for 1300 now as the review at projector central said 1500 (and for that amount I could get a superior Infocus 4805) but as for the X1 it can indeed be bought for 769$ from a certain reputable seller. A pity if I name where I'll be shot. :(

I'm reading the nice big thread on the h-30....curious about the light spill...how big of an issue is that gonna be?since im going to be making the most use out of space with the 4:3 and then keeping the same width for the 16:9 am i going to see alot of the spill on the screen?and just how much better is the 4805?

Spdfrek, I have a H30 and I love it. No question that it would be the better choice for your dedicated room, but I am wondering about the speaker choices. I am a HUGE fan of Paradigm's and that is what I have, but your setup seems very large for a home theater with a 90-100 inch screen.

I am guessing that the room is going to be in the neighborhood of 240 to 340 sqft? If that is the case you would probably be very happy with some smaller units and save some cash. My area for HT is about 12 x 25 (the overall room is 40 x 25) and I have a pair of Titan's for the fronts, a CC270 for the center and a pair of Atom's for the rears. I also have an HSU STF-2 sub. All of it is powered by a Yamaha RX-V640.

I have to say that the setup is truly excellent. Crystal clear and the sub is beyond amazing. I reviewed a ton of different setups and came to the conclusion that the bigger speakers were a waste in the space I had. I was able to put all of the speakers together for under $1000 and it sounds better than some $3000 plus setups I have heard since then. Great sound stage, accurate reproduction and pretty warm overall.

Of course if you are more of an audiophile (I use my stuff almost strictly for theater, no DVD-A or SACD) you would probably enjoy the Monitor's more, but for straight theater, gaming or general music, the Titan,Atom, CC270, HSU STF-2 setup rocks.

my area right now is small, eventually itll get a space upgrade. The reason for monitors is yes, music purposes. My truck has 2500+ value of stereo equipment for audio purposes...purely for sound quality use. However i have been trying to figure out if my money is well spent on the monitor series or not..One side of me says, well its good equipment, and i'll prolly never need an upgrade if i get it...The other cheap side says, anything decent i get should be a good upgrade and id be happy with.So I've really been kicking around the idea of picking up that used set of paradigms...for the price i dont think i can go wrong, possibly even sell it for near what i pay if i decide its not what i want. The other thought is getting good mains and spending less on the rest,as paradigm says all speakers are timber matched...I could run a pair of monitor 9's with a cc-270 and atoms and save a good chunk of money right there...man...these expensive hobbys are gonna be the end of me :p

Paradigms will be a good match with the Hsu sub, thats waht i use, very nice for HT.

As far as light spill with a 4.3 screen there won't be any. Even with a 16.9 screen you can hardly see it. You also have the lens mask to focus light if you use a 16.9 screen. 4.3 no problemo.

Having had the x1 for a 14 day evaluation and having never seen the H30.. My two comments are as follows, I was impressed with the picture of the X1 but screendoor was very noticable and destracting to me. As far as price goes, I disagree with Guitarman, Many people know the pricing of the two units but not all so it's worth pointing out again that no matter where you look or what time of year it is, If you look for the lowst price there seems to be a $500 plus price difference. To me, that's a pretty big difference and I have no clue if the H30 is worth the extra cash. For $200 I'd say it's a no brainer.
