The only projector (besides a Runco) I have seen in action is the Piano so that is my frame of reference. If there is anyone who has seen both could you tell me how they compare please? I know Audible from here in Ottawa has but he has not been on the board since shortly after he got his X1. Any help appreciated.

Edit:In response to RDM's post below mine,I did not see rainbows on the Piano no matter how hard I tried.

You have to try to see rainbows on the Piano. You see rainbows easily on the X1, at least I do. The piano is over twice the price of the X1 last time I checked. If you don't have a problem with rainbows go for the X1 but make sure you try to see one before you buy it, don't use the Piano as your determining factor of how easily you see rainbows.

Stay away form the piano!

Rainbows are not a big problem, but there is hideous motion artefacts in all panning scenes, especially in darker scenes!

I have the Piano. Wouldn't buy it again.

Supposedly a htpc helps, but then you have to go that route...

I do not agree. I own the piano 3200 with NTSC video in the states and don't have -ANY- problem with it. Anything I do notice with the piano, I also notice on my 61 inch rear projection set which is HDTV.

I do own a Denon 1600 dvd player which is very expensive, however, the picture looks as good if not better than projectors that cost twice the price.

I would buy the piano again. The -only- thing I don't like about the projector is the fact that it doesn't protect against dust and I now have alot of dust inside of it. Other than that, it is wonderful, especially for the price.

The picture did look nice on the Piano but at $5300 Canadian it is a little too high. That is why I am wondering how the X1 stacks up against it. Have any of you seen the X1 and is the picture even in the same ball park? Thanks.

Hi Guys,

I have personally seen both and must be honest that the Piano is a "Tad" better but definately not worth the extra (IMHO). I too have noticed poor quality in pans on the Piano but overall amazing PQ.

Regardless of value for your dollar, the X1 has amazing PQ and is very close to the Piano. (Thou I must admit they were not side by side comparisons, so don't flame me Piano owners ;) .

The X1 has great blacks, but the brightness could be better, If you can control your lighting this will be a non-issue.

I'd be proud to own either, but dollar for dollar the award goes to,,,,the X1

Jessica :)

P.S. As for rainbows (of which I see very, very seldom) the Piano I would say has even less. We watched *8 Mile* on both (which seems to be a movie common for rainbows)
