Have a A2 and the combo disks are giving me the error message. Sometimes these disks play and sometimes they don't. Do the Xa2's suffer this problem as well? From what I can remember my 360 drive didn't have this problem, shouldn't have sold it...

I am with you. I have had most of the Combo disks I have tried to play give me trouble ! Just the other night "The Hitcher played until the layer change and then it would lock up. Had to result to finishing the movie in SD and that was a let down after HD ! Johnathan

Digital Bits reports that Universal claims the thickness of these combo's vary, causing problems while playing back the HD side. Universal is re-pressing discs. Toshiba annouced that they are working on a new firmware to help matters also.

Same here, my XA2 is fine with combo discs.

Glad all of you have had a good experience with them. I have had problems with Children of Men,The Hitcher and The Good Shepard . I now own 24 HD DVD's and no problem with them.Also had problems with Relentless Enemies and Discovery Atlas Australia .

I would get the STUPID error code with both my XA1 and XA2!

I just got 4 combo discs back from Universal and they load fine now, but if I try to use the chapter search on Hollywoodland and Children Of Men towards the end of each movie, it gives me an error code. So far, so good on Smokin' Aces and The Good Shepherd. I'm going to watch these again to be sure. Universal put a sticker on the the case stating they were thoroughly checked and contact Toshiba if there are any further problems. I'm curious though if I can get a job for Universal as the guy that sits around all day watching movies to make sure they place okay all the way through..

Happy to report the the 1.6 firmware update has helped my problem ! I received Letters from Iwo Jima yesterday from netflix. After updating to firmware 1.6 the XA2 played the combo disk flawlessly . Johnathan
