Hi IVB,

We're Xantech dealers...

Take a look at the Russound ACT-1 too. They are both very similar (even in name)... The Russound is nice because it has a detachable PC style power cable, but it's only 10amp and requires 12v to trigger.

The Xantech is 15 amp and can trigger on voltages from 5-30v so it's more flexible. Both are similar in price.

Cheers,

Paul

Sold. I sent you a PM with my info.

Thx.
i am looking at the xantech units and similar units for multi zone audio. I already have a 3806 which has multi zone but would like to know if the 3806 can be integrated into a multi zone unit.

I'm wanting to be able to have the xantech style wallplates in each room that will allow me to select the input and change radio station & volume up n down etc.

Is this a possibility where i have CD TV and radio audio all sourced from the 3806 but controlled by the wall plates.

step by step how and why is helpful but not essential at the moment.

thanks in advance.

Dewa,

Easy to do with the Xantech BXAUDIO4x4 or MRAUDIO systems. Basically, the Xantech amp is wired to keypads with Cat5. The amp controls the 3806 vis IR. Each keypad button can be programmed with multiple IR codes. I just finished this exact setup with the BX4x4 and the 3806 using the Denon's zone 2 output. It works great. Much easier to program if you can store the discrete IR codes available from the Denon website into a Pronto. Toughest part about the system is remembering what all the keys do for each source.

Try www.worthdist.com for the Xantech parts. Great service and best prices around.

Ben, i have looked for images of the 4X4 & cannot find one. (i found one) is there a possibility to send video via the 3806 to a second zone as well?

I would love to see what your set up looks like. This sounds like it is perfect for what i am trying to acheive.
Dewa,

Yes, you can output a video signal thru the Zone 2 output of the 3806, however I believe it is just a composite or S-video signal so no high-def. In this setup, the video distribution does not go through the Xantech amplifier, but IS controlled by the keypads. Xantech does make a more expensive system that performs video switching as well. However I wouldn't bother for just two zones as the Denon will do the trick.

Ben
Keep in mind that the Denon, as with many receivers, can only pass analog sound to Zone2/3. That means if you hook up your CD, DVD, or XM radio to the Denon via digital coax or optical, it cannot be passed to Z2/Z3.

Your options are:

1) Analog only

2) Assuming your source can send to 2 outputs concurrently, double-connect it to your receiver on different inputs. I.E., optical hooked up to CD input, analog hooked up to VDP input. Send CD(optical) to Z1, use VDP for Z2/Z3.

Path #2 sounds complex, but if you use a PC to control it you can have it perform all the switching behind the scenes when you press the "turn on CD in Z2" button.
The Denon can output analog and digital simultaneously. The connections allow for both analog and digital for each source. Bigger problem is making sure the "source" will output in both domains. Most will, but there are a few cable boxes that are stubborn.

IVB, your automation seems to be coming along nicely. Mind if I send you a PM chock full of questions? I'm taking a look at CQC and Main Lobby and would like to get an experts view (who doesn't represent one of the aforementioned companies).

Ben
PM away. I looked at MainLobby several times, the most recent in August, when I was looking at both ML & CQC to decide which to buy. My info should be somewhat current, as Cinemar hasn't released any updates since then and I'm obviously up to speed on CQC.

Not to worry - if I think ML is right for you, i'll certainly tell you that. Like you said, I don't have a stake either way.

I think that is the easiest sale anybody has ever made.
Some folks may call me an impluse buyer - me, i prefer to say I'm a fast decision maker, esp when given advice by folks with Paul's reputation ;)
I don't want to hijack this thread but I am creating a very similar setup to you all. So far Ihav my htpc, a xantech MRC44 for the room controls, a denon 3805, a grafikeye 3106 for the theater and the cinemar suite. I also just picked up a couple of pronto neos. and a usb-uirt. I am just starting the combining of these products and having a blast. I would sure like to toss thoughts and questions around.
