Is is possible to plug in a Xantech a 490-00 Micro Link IR reciever directly to a Pionneer EX-500 VSX-50 reciever SR control input or do I have to use a connecting block and ir emitter.

I believe the SR control is a demodulated, proprietary format and you would need a 794 interface to plug directly into it. The Xantech 490 is a modulated IR signal that you would need to send into the IR receiver on the front of the Pioneer. If you want to use the rear SR jack look at the appropriate 794 interface.
