XBMC Skins and Add-Ons

What is everyone's preferred skin for XBMC? What platform do you use XBMC on? If you don't use XBMC, what media player do you use? Sorry if this has already been created/I did not see a thread

Interesting, I will have to take a look at Openelec. Is there a reason as to why you favor this media player? have you used others?
Haven't tried other OS. This is my first HTPC and I only wanted it to play my blurays and DVDs ripped to MKV, and I knew I wanted something cheap, simple and appliance-like as possible. All of which points to openelec. As for skins I used Confluence for a while then briefly looked at 2 or 3 others before landing on Ace. It's got a slick look, is light, and I like that it supports custom media cases and Concerts (though I wish they could get the ConcertsDB scraper working again).

I understand the wanting something cheap and simple. XBMC seems very similar to Openelec and even have the same type of skins. Might be by the same contributing developers as well... I will look into this program. I use Aeon Nox skin and I love how my media is displayed. I am a big believer in HTPCs and I have built a few . XBMC for all my media except Live TV and Recorded TV are with WMC
I'm using Aeon Nox, have also tried Artic, it has a nice clean look especially for the PVR interface.

Aeon Nox has been my favorite, but so was Transparency. I want great content for my media, but not overloaded. I use to use PVR with XBMC, but running the WMC server for the Add-Ons just became a hastle. I use WMC for Live TV and PVR abilities.

Openelec is XBMC. Think of it as another distro like XBMCUbuntu or even more stripped down. So much so that you can run it off a thumb drive and still boots really fast.

It's not going to work for you if you want to stream Netflix through your HTPC and I'm not sure how well it works for recording TV either since I don't use it for that. Just for playing MKVs though it is fantastic.

Ahhh Gotcha ElJimador, Thank you! Yeah I use it for a lot more than playing MKVs.
Use it on Windows based machine, and skin I use is Confluence modified. It's a custom skin based off confluence.Tried most but it was just my favorite.

Which Windows OS are you using? I am not sure if I used Confluence for very long. I was a big fan of Transparency and now Aeon Nox. I really enjoy how my media is displayed with those skins and they seem to have a lot of features and options to customize. Especially the random movie poster when at the home screen.
Windows 7 and Metropolis, although it needs to be updated for Gotham (some things don't line up properly).

I use it on a windows 8.1 and a windows 7 machine. The basic confluence skin was okay, but what sold me me on it was when I moved to a custom version of it.

Bill, what sold you on Metropolis? What do you mean things don't line up properly?

Brickie, I will have to check out some screen shots of Confluence modified.

Not really sure what sold me on it, I guess I just like the look. The problems in Gotham are the studio icon is in the center of the screen as opposed to it's box, the clock is low to the hour is part way off the screen, when I hit info during a movie so see the tech specs it's currently a jumbled mess.

These are all things I can live with to get the added features of Gotham over Frodo until the skin is updated.

I'll have to give Metropolis a try on one of my other XBMC machines.
I have XBMC on Win 7 and Win 8 PCs. My favorite skin right now is Amber.
