I think it would be wise for them to make the controllers wireless, but with ports on the controller and the console to use a wire if desired.

*Infact, I think all next gen consoles should have that type of controller.

Exactly. Current wireless technology isn't flawless at handling signals, but a wire is. Making standard hybrid controllers would only work in Microsoft's benefit (and gamer's).

wireless sucks when your jumping up and down but they are good for when u throw them and it doesn't take the xbox with it, even though the wire breakers were supposed to break but of course dont hahaha.

They definitely need to make a charging cradle for convenience. My logitech wireless controllers (the old and new models) eat batteries and it is a pain to continually change batteries. They also need to pick a different frequency so that cordless phones, baby monitors, microwave ovens, etc don't interfere.

Never had a problem there...heck those quick disconnects have prevented me from taking my console on a quick trip to the floor numerous times (although they didn't prevent the actual act of me tripping over the cable...hmm).

I agree and that's a very good suggestion. :)

 Old news! ;)

I would assume MS could just put 1 RF receiver inside the console to read numerous controllers. If so, it probably won't cost them much extra for the wireless feature. Is there any reason why they couldn't support more than 4 controllers on 1 console? -- Might be cool for a sports game where you have lots of players on 1 box.

I was sorta hoping they would have a more advanced rumble feature in the next gen controllers. Guess that's not going to happen with XBOX2. . .

On average, how many hours/day do you play? Just curious. I have the Logictech wireless controllers for about 3 week and I average about 1-3 hours about every other day. The response seems fine so far.

I agree, I've had my Logitech wireless controllers for my Xbox and PS2 for over 2 months now and not had to change the batteries even once yet. And that's with the vibration set to maximum level. I've been very impressed with the battery life of these controllers.

I forgot to add that not only would this allow you to play if the wireless signal is subpar, but it would allow you to use the console's controller ports as the chargers, and allow you to play games while it charges (with lithium batteries or something) so charging won't take away from your gametime, and you won't have to go to the store and buy more batteries (and it would also charge while the console is powered off, just as long as it's plugged in). No need for a useless extra controller charge station like a cellphone.

Absoposolutely!!! A charging cradle is needed without question. AFA the freq., nothing to prevent them from using the 5.6GHz spectrum is there?

it would be cool if the controller had built in rechargeable batteries, and a usb link up to the xbox. so lets say you are running low on batteries, the xbox will pause your game and tell you that the batteries are low. then you hook up the supplied the usb cable, and continue playing. while you are playing, the controller is being charged up by the usb cable.

probably more of a hassle than anything else, but i thought it was cool :)

I could see wireless happening, but with limited frequencies available and xbox lan parties really having taken off they will need something like a MAC address so that controllers don't interfere with each other, otherwise you'll have some unhappy LAN gamers.

The could be Bluetooth-based. Perhaps Bluetooth 2.
