Has anyone with the new xbox played any of their old games like halo 2 on their new system. How easy is it to download the program, that makes it work?

I happens automatically and seamlessly when you pop in the old game. Easy enough for you?

What ^he said. Last night I put in Halo2 (a backwards compatible game) into my 360. Then the original xbox splash screen comes up but with a white background. Then a blade opens telling me I need a patch. I click on yes and it downloads, installs and then restarts the game automatically. Simple as that, enjoy!
Morkeleb,

You said it downloads. is that from the hard drive or the web, and if its not from the web, what do you think they were talking about downloading somthing form the web that makes it work?, It was in an artical I read somewhere, i think.

steve
If your Xbox360 cannot connect to the web directly, you can D/L an ISO file that you can burn to a CD/DVD, which you would pop into the Xbox360 to install the updates. But, if you're already online, you don't need to jump through those hoops.
It downloads off XBox Live...off the web. You need to have the Live service I believe to download the patch. I could be wrong about that but seeing as every 360 gets packed with the Silver Live service it should be no problem for you.
So if you didn't have an internet connection at all could you still play Halo 1?
Actually yes, in two ways. Halo and Halo 2 compatability came on the hard drive, but an updated version is available (they didn't have AA initially I don't believe.) But if you don't have Live, you can download the patch from xbox.com and apply it via cd.

You'd have to have access to an internet connection and DVD burner somewhere. I also think there's an option to have them ship you an update disk for $6.95 or thereabout...
I feel bad for the guys who don't have access to the internet then.
i have internet access, but i dont have a usb thingy for my xbox yet and right now, im not looking to spend another 100 for an extra right now. If I can down load it from the web and burn it on my laptop that works for now.

thanks for the info
yeah but it all kinda stinks anyway since you can't port over your saves/profiles from your x1. because of this, I doubt I will be playing any B.C.
Why don't you just run an ethernet cable to the Xbox? Roll it over, do the updates, then roll it back up for the next time you need it.
I have my 360 connected via cable directly. I don't trust the darn wifi for my gaming. :D
Well that is an option, but my router is in my wife's home office on our second floor and my 360 is set up in our basement HT, i don't think she would be too happy i i started running cables through the house. I think the conversation would go something like this:

WIFE: Why is this wire running through the house.

ME: Um, it's a 360 project that involves your dsl line.

WIFE: If you need a project you can go clean the gutters, and fix the snow blower you broke last week. :)

ME: OK, i'll go make lunch :(

Cute- anyway, as noted- Just upplyg 360 from downstair, run upstairs with vga cable and ethernet cable that came with 360 premium, take out the wifes pc vga monitor connection, slap in yours and plug the ethernet into the router. Turn on 360, set up xob live, d/l auto updates and boom- done. Should take less than 15 minutes.

btw- I was amazed how easy the ethernet cable and 360 instantly found/connected to and updated live! I will have the same wireless cable issue when I get the new plasma for downstairs. Right now I use my 360 and pc on same monitor so makes the ethernet an easy choice.

The VGA cable does not come with the premium system. Just plug it in while your wife isn't home. You can get 100-150 foot ethernet cable online for cheap and it'll take less than ten minutes to update everything and even download some game demos (the big game demos will take a lot longer.)
