i have an xbox 360 2nd gen console got it with the forza and marvel ultimate alliance bundle its the 20gb. not really woried about the hard drive space comparing the 2 but my system is loud as hell and someone told me at game crazy that the elite runs better and is not as loud as the pro and arcade.

i want to know if thats true or not before upgrading. i really dont care for the elite if its just black and has a 120gb hard drive. i would upgrade so the system isnt so damn loud and doesnt over heat as much. thats what im mainly focusing on.

Skip the Elite and buy a new Arcade. You'll get the latest motherboard (Jasper) that runs much, much cooler and quieter. Sell your old system, minus the HDD, and buy the new.

Agreed. All system versions (Arcade, Pro, Elite) were fixed together and the new arcade would be the cheapest way to do it. Keep your old HDD.

If you count generations that way, by motherboard variation, the 360 is into the 4th generation (Xenon, zephyr, falcon, jasper) and the Arcades into the 4A gen (512MB flash vs 256). Not counting the opus replacement mobos.

If you go by CPU/GPU die size they've been third-gen (all 90nm, 65nm cpu/90nm gpu, and all 65nm) since last year and might even start shipping some 4th gen by year's end (at least part 45nm).

I didnt know they changed the boards in the newer units. Hmmmm.

I bought my Elite becuase 80%=it was black, 15%=HDMI port, and 5%=bigger HD
I HATED the white units. When I found out they were comming in black I went and bought it on bedut day. NOTHING in my house is white but the baseboards....or tan for that matter

I bought the Arcade $199 with a 120GB hard drive $79, that was back almost a year ago now I guess. The Arcade had the same internals as the Elite, just white instead of black exterior. So for $278 I got the same thing as the elite, but in a different color. And that was a year ago before the price drops on the Elite so it was an even better deal back then.

but remember black attracts heat so bigger chance of elite heating up more than the white console

Perhaps you meant to say that it absorbs all wavelengths of light, thereby making it more prone to overheat when exposed to powerful light sources? Honestly, you shouldn't be operating your console in direct sunlight or within the heat radius of a high-wattage halogen light, regardless of its color.

there are elite jaspers out in the wild now, but your best "chance" at a blind buy would come from the arcade.
