IMO MS will release a new version of the Xbox with 2 versions: 1 will have a bigger hard drive and built in HD DVD drive and the second will have just a bigger hard drive...both will have hdmi...then they will lower the base unit out now from $299.00 to $199.00 and the $399.00 to $299.00...the new versions will be $399.00 and $499.00 respectively meaning the higher priced one will have the built in HD DVD drive.

The PS3 will continue to struggle through 2007 and into 2008 when sony will then at the end of 2007 be able to lower the pricee of both versions.

The Wii will flourish and become the number 1 console.

These are my opnions and i would really like to hear what you think...please dont flame me i am not taking sides just giving an opinion...i have a PS3 and an A2...So, what do you think?

I think Microsoft has made it very clear that they will not include an HD-DVD drive in an Xbox.

Yup, I'd say a new 360 model with HDMI out and a newer bigger harddrive that can be bought separately.

HD-DVD stays as an add on.

it may join the Sony PS3 in the realm of "tech that looks absolutely amazing but is far too expensive for most people to even consider buying."
I truly believe the price points are dictating unit sales with the PS3. For my dollar it was a great value as I will be using it for both games and Blu-ray, but to the average uninformed consumer they see a $600 video game console.

As far as the wii prediction, I love Nintendo and plan on buying a wii soon, but I see a shorter life span on the technologically inferior console. I figure it appeal will burn out while the PS3 continues to build a vast library of solid titles.

I think the Xbox had a good run through 2006 without competition for next gen consoles. It will be interesting to see how the numbers fall with competitors on the market. It's got a great lead as far as available software goes. MS will just really need to drop some heavy hitters on the market to counteract the big names PS3 will be releasing in 2007.

It is going to be a great year to be a gamer. That is my prediction.

As a game console, it seriously needs some compelling titles. I'm not really all that impressed with Resistance: Fall of Man. As a movie/media player, I'm almost completely satisfied, but there are some problems that need to be addressed. I'm hoping the March software update brings additional features like SD upscaling and background downloading.

Indeed. I've always been a bit... amused by the Wii. Sony has been in that market for some time with the PS2 (DDR, Guitar Hero, the karaoke one), etc. If they were really interested in Nintendo, they could do a SIXAXIS version for the PS2 and go to it. As much as I am NOT interested by the genre, I wonder if/when Sony will do a Guitar Hero version for the PS3 (and hope my old lady doesn't want it!
).

I fear the HDMI 360 will be vaporhardware to avoid angering the existing base, as much as I want one (with integrated HD-DVD to clean up the rather awkward aesthetic of the separate add-on). Knowing that they want to do the 65nm thing anyway makes me think there might be some hope, though. I expect to see the big hard drive offered as a separate option, probably $199 given the pricing on the 20GB and pricing on existing commodity 2.5" hard drives (I'm pricing them for my PS3 for my Linux install).

PS3, I expect to see a Sony branded bluetooth keyboard/touchpad (maybe a license by Logitech or something). I'll probably send my Logitech MX5000 to desktop computer duty (it's kind of overkill for the PS3 anyways). March/Spring firmware update will have DVD upscaling and tweak the browser, as well. Hardware sales will be brisk, though dip until Summer in NA, when they will make a big push (Spiderman 3 game, Spidey 1/2 Blu-ray discs, etc).

Not sure what big names you are refering to. Sony is bleeding exclusives left and right as more publishers choose to go neutral(GTA,etc.). Even MGS4 developers will not deny looking at possible 360.

Ahhhh bummer dude. I was kinda keeping a flame going for a high end HD DVD Xbox. Oh well I guess I'm cool with HDMI if that comes and a 65 nanometer processor that keeps things cooler if rumors of that are true.

I own a Wii & tend to think the same thing - how long before the novelty wears off?

Disagree on the PS3 - sales are as good as they're going to get. The farther down the pipe we go the more apparent it will become that it's a good BD player & not a very good gaming console (last gen weak GPU & abysmal memory structure).
