Timed for Comic-Con, Microsoft's Xbox 360 unit today announced a new lineup of original video series and set a date for anticipated upgrades to the Netflix streaming service through Xbox Live.

On Aug. 11, Xbox Live will launch updates for Netflix, upgrading the picture quality and adding a social networking element that lets viewers watch movies and TV shows with their friends online. About 500,000 Xbox Live subscribers added Netflix's streaming service in the second quarter, according to Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter.

Xbox Live also will launch an Avatar Marketplace and a Games on Demand section with 30games available for playing anytime, including Mass Effect and LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga.

Later in the month, on Aug. 25, the third season of online hit series The Guild will debut on Xbox Live. Microsoft also will launch another new series exclusive to Xbox, Girls Go Geek, a tech chat show hosted by girl gamer host Amber MacArthur (aka Amber Mac.) The show streams for free, sponsored by the U.S. Air Force.

New South Park game South Park Let's Go Tower Defense Play! will debut exclusively on Xbox Live Oct. 7, the same day new episodes of the animated sitcom will premiere on Comedy Central.

Not sure, but I hope they support 1080p. I know they are going to do that for the PPV/VOD content.
Im also still hoping smoothstreaming gets added to every video on the xbox.... things like the guild, that girl geek show, game trailers, tv episodes. Seems unnecessary to download all that stuff if you can just stream it (since the smoothstreaming tech is now in the console)
