I did a search and didn't see this posted here but it's been around a few places and figured I'd post it just in case some of you missed it. There could be a potental hazard with certain older XBOX power cords. Microsoft is offering to replace the cord if it's one of the defective units. You need your manufacture date and serial number from the bottom of your XBOX. Here's the link:

My problem hasn't been a power cord, but a dying CMOS battery. If I unplug my Xbox for any amount of time, all time, date, etc. settings are wiped out.
