DO you need the wireless adapter to play online if you have a router and can't connect through the wired cable because the router is too far away?

There's also wireless bridges to ethernet, I can't remeber the name off hand.

There great if you have multiple devices that need a connection.

(Instead of buyoing wireless cards for all your home theater devices, if possible, you can buy one bridge and then run ethernet to all of them)

You need an alternate connectivity solution, but you do not need to buy Microsoft's product. There are a variety of products available to solve this issue, the most popular of which are third party wireless bridges.
