Hi all,

I just tried for the first time to setup my xbox360 (wired but prefer wireless) and a laptop with no HDMI as a video player for home videos stores on a USB NAS attached to the router.

I have fiddled and fiddled for hours with the router settings and no luck. I also searched the net without luck. I'm hoping to get some ideas...

At this point on the windows 7 laptop running Windows Media Center I can see XBOX 360 extender "Setup but not available". When I go to the XBOX360 and turn on the Media center the message on the TV says "contacting..." and on the laptop changes "Ready to use" and then reverts back after a few minutes to Setup but not available". Back on the XBOX screen it says "Connection Failure turn the xbox off and on and try again".

I I have the stock firmware 3.0.0.4.376_3754 on the router.
I have an assigned IP address for the xbox.
I have the ports forwarding setup
2869 TCP
10243 TCP
1900 UDP
10280-10284 UDP
I have UPnP turned ON.

I also tried turning off the firewall on the laptop and the router which did not succeed either.

I also have a Sony google tv box which streams perfectly from this NAS so I dot think it's the drive.

I have tried a tool that checks if ports are open and it says 2869 locked by an application and instructs me to close it. Not sure which one. And when I try 10243 it says the port is not open. I suspect I am not setting up the router correctly (maybe a setting or opening the ports). The router is plugged into a Cable modem which has a built in router which I have disabled. I could not find firewall settings on the cable modem.

any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Terry

here is the port forwarding log...

Destination Proto. Port range Redirect to Local port
ALL TCP 2869 192.168.1.83 2869
ALL TCP 10243 192.168.1.83 10243
ALL UDP 1900 192.168.1.83 1900
ALL UDP 10280:10284 192.168.1.83 10280
ALL UDP 3074 192.168.1.83 3074
ALL UDP 44804 192.168.1.126 44804
ALL TCP 44804 192.168.1.126 44804

192.168.1.83 is the xbox 360.
should I be turning on those ports for the lap top as well (or instead)?

Thanks!

Your laptop and xbox are inside the router's firewall. There is no need to mess with port forwarding at all (it can only hurt, not helping). And since you have UPnP turned on, you should not need any manual port forwarding. Check to see if you have 3rd party firewall installed. If you do, you need to uninstall them. Simply disable them won't work. Also, your laptop should be connected to your router as a Home or private network connection type, not public. Otherwise, all the traffic will be filtered.
