I had a 34XS955 for a few weeks in Jan. and it mapped my local Comcast cable HD stations to .# extensions to the analog station. i.e.- It mapped my local channel 4 HD which is channel 181 on my local Comcast listing and mapped it to 4.1. This was nice and made it easy to find.

I just got a XBR960 yesterday and the 960 mapped to something like 83.4.

How does the XBR960 decide where to map HD cable? Is there something that Comcast sends out that makes it map it to 83.4? I would think it would map it to 181 which is what channel it is on in my local Comcast listing. Is there any way I can override it and map it to 4.1? I can remember 4.1 a lot easier that 83.4...

Thanks for any info!

The 83.4 is the actual cable channel its on, with QAM they can encode several digital channels into one cable analog channel space. So thats the 4th digital channel carried on what would have been analog cable channel 83. The channel numbers on the cable box are mapped virtual channels - the cable company can map any physical channel to any virtual channel number - only the cable boxes (or cablecard) can decipher that information and the guide.
