Xg Vs 1080p Lcd

I have a a Nec XG 75A which I love other than the noise. I am trying to make a decision whether to add a Fouroujda native rate scaler and scale to 960p or go with a new LCD 1080p like the Mits, Pearl or JVC. I am not sure which will look better. I only watch HDDVD and HD cable only. Standard definition cable or DVD mean nothing to me. Will the newer 1080p projectors blow away my good ole' XG away??? If so in what way other than fan noise...Thanks...AL

If you only watch 1080i HD, why scale to 960? Why not optimize your spot shape for 1080i and watch it all that way. This would cost you virtually nothing and I'd take the XG pic at 1080i over those PJs especially comparing your cost.

If you have a problem with the noise, you should consider doing a fan mod. The fans are probably very old by now and are not as efficient as newer Yate Loon's'/Sanyo's/Papst's. I'll see if I can dig up some threads for you.
Get the lcd...it's quieter and does perfect 1080p. Why beat a dead horse??

How much would you want for that XG?

If your unit is in good condition and no burn you would be surprised how close it would be compared to a 1080p LCD. The main differences are black level and sitting distance eventhough you may not see the SDE but you will discern them.

I would suggest you run your CRT with 1080i signal and pass the processor unless looking for cropping or refresh rates.
the early xg,s have a lot of video noise unless run at a high resolution ie 1080p x1280. you need a scaler or htpc for this . Hd-dvd run native, ie 720p or 1080i is not great for my xg1100.
Dont the lines overlap on 1080p with the XGs?? That will soften the picture I thought...I was told 960p is the max resolution for most XGs without overlap...AL

I have run my XG1352 with 960p and 1080i and both look great. I am not sure about older XG's. Mine was built 8 years ago.
Well.... in australia quite a few people like me run 1152x1280p [native x2 on pal] on our first generation xg,s and the picture quality is just fine. 1152p minimises the video noise in the early xg,s. at 1080i or 720p the video noise or scan lines are just too visible. The later generation xg,s had more improved video circuits to reduce video noise.
