Ximeta's Living-Room Friendly NetDisk NAS: Save DVDs on the Network?
This summer, Ximeta is expected to roll out the NetDisk Home and NetDisk Office line of NDAS storage devices.
Ximeta coined the term NDAS awhile ago, when it launched storage solutions that combined the speed and simplicity of direct-attached-storage (DAS) with the sharing capabilities of network-attached storage (NAS).
The new products start with the NetDisk Home line: a two-bay rack that accommodates two hot-swap bays for SATA drives; and a dual two-bay rack that comes with two racks, with two bays each.
The NetDisk Office products include a four-bay rack (four hot-swap bays) and dual four-bay rack (two racks with four bays each).
Pricing for the products have not been established, but presumably they're priced for the home market since Ximeta says they feature a "sleek design for your living room."
Although Ximeta doesn't elaborate, the products include "MediaPortal" software that "converts your PC into a Media Center." Users can "watch movies, listen to music, look at your pictures from every PC in the network."
Here's the curious thing. Ximeta says you can "Save your CD/DVD-collection in the network and watch DVDs and play games over the network."
