Boy, you sure know how to open a can of worms. :D
not looking to start trouble just need advice :)
I hear them fancy video cassette players is down to a couple of Benjamins. And pre-played movies from them Blockbuster stores are selling for an outrageous two to three bucks a pop. Can't go wrong with a boxload of those under the old 'Winter Tree.' :p
Hi. I'm Wired. I'd like to be friends. Mine don't buy me $500-$1000 HD Players!

So...friends? :p
I'd like to be friends too.

And I'll take a HD-XA2.
Assuming you posted this in the Bluray forum as well (I didn't look and don't plan to), I'd assume you'd get pretty much the answers you'd expect.

However, I'm not too sure it would be a smart idea to buy a friend an HD player without him knowing which one you were getting. If it's something you think he'd be interested in, he probably already has an opinion on which (if any) format he'd rather jump into.
yep gift card and let him decide

me i tell EVERYONE i know or just see at stores to get hd-dvd

but hey blue ray costs 2x and has more studio support 50gigs over 30 gigs, so it must be better right?
You could buy him some combo discs and see if that influences his decision. :)

Nothing would say how much you care like waiting in line for 24 hours to get them a PS3. ;)

I know you were joking but there are going to be some anxious parents out there praying that they can get their hands on a PS3 to appease their kid(s).
Man, for me to even consider giving either format as a stand alone player, the gift recipient would have to be beyond HDTV, home theater, tech savey.

An Xbox 360 and / or a PS3 would both make truly awesome gifts for just about anybody, not even taking into account the new HD video disc formats. :)
