Y Splitter Ok to connect 2 SACD sources to AVR?

I have 2 sources that have External 5.1 outs, yet my AVR has only one set of External-In jacks. Is there any harm running a Y splitter adapter so that I can feed signal into AVR from either source? obviously not a good idea to run both at the same time.. so I guess need to be careful (is it possible to damage anything if an 'accident' occurs)?

Any recommended brand of RCA Y splitter adapter/cable?
