Yet another help me thread!

Sorry to bother you all, was just hoping for a little insight.

First off, i would like to say, i am usually just a "HTIB" kind

of person, But me and the wife are planning on remodeling

our living room, and decided that we should go with some

higher quality speakers.

Now i am no audiophile, and would like some help getting

Some sort of a good idea on where to begin. I just want

some nice clean sounding speakers, was looking at the

Polk 50 monitors and the Infinity Primus 252 with a sub(

dont know anything about them) for a nice 2.1 setup

and upgrade to a 7.1 later. System will be mainly for movies

and light music, anywhere from Classical, to Jazz, to Alt-Rock

I Haven't picked up a AVR yet either, as i dont know which

would be worth it..

Anyways, any other suggestions to speakers/avr's ? Would the

Polks / Primus' be alright for what i am looking for ?

Thanks alot for reading!

Polks and Infinity are good entry level speakers to start with and they'll outshine any HTiB. I own Infinity P362 and have no regrets purchasing them. Whatever brand you buy, make sure your Fronts are match with same make and model. I don't know what your budget is but Frys sometimes put their Infinity P362 on sale (more often in B&M store than online). And Polk Monitor is onsale often at newegg. The best way to buy speakers is to actually go to a store and listen to them. Each brand brings their own kind of sound.

For cheap recevier, I picked up 2 older and refurbished recievers to power my 2 home theater system. I picked up a Harman Kardon at ebay dealer Harman Audio. I picked up a Marantz 6001 at Accessories4less. They are in the 300ish....very happy with the results so far, had them for almost a year now and no problems yet.

You'll also need a good subwoofer to go with your system as well. I would spend a decent amount of money on a subwoofer because it makes a HUGE impact on HT. Elemental Design's low end subwoofer would be the lowest I would go. Next I would look into HSU Research, SVSound, or Epik.
