What is everyone running?

I just stepped up from a tsr-7810.

my new house has some ceiling speakers as well as speakers in a few rooms in the ceiling as well as the outsides porches.
For the room where the unit sits I was thinking if just doing Polk signature s60, s35 and surrounds and use the in ceiling speakers. Probably get another pioneer Andrew Jones sub. I’ll probably need an for multiple zones, not sure how it’s wired yet

The receiver makes diddly difference in comparison to getting a decent sub. The Pioneer AJ sub is junk. Put the money you would have spent on a new receiver into a decent sub like a Hsu VTF-2.

If you like Polk, get the only really good center speaker they make, the LSi 706C which is available from the Polk Outlet for 1/3 of its normal retail:

The center does 60-80% of the HT output---the front mains are almost irrelevant in comparison. If you want Polk towers, their Outlet has the S50 for $200 each, which would be fine.

But if going with the $250/pr Polk S20 instead of the S50 will give you more budget to get a decent sub like that Hsu, by all means get the S20. Towers are mainly a VISUAL preference when it comes to HT unless you are specifically looking for super loud volumes.

I'm no audiophile and most of my Polk are getting old. I have an RX-A3070 along with the following:

Mains - Polk RT1000p (built in sub)
Center - Polk CS2
Surround - Polk RC65i (in wall)
Back - Polk R150
Height - SVS Elevation (on ceiling)
Sub - SVS SB1000 Pro

Outdoor Patio - Atrium 4

I am pretty happy with the sound for 7.2.2. I am using the built in subs in the mains as my second sub. I am considering replacing my mains and getting a second PB1000. The LSi M 706c looks impressive. I may put it on my want list.

Yamaha requires using the front and rear presence outputs for multiple zones. My previous allowed me to use the rear surround. It would cut the rear surround if I had music on the patio. Now I have the patio on rear presence, so I have 7.2.2 instead of 5.2.4.

If you are not in a hurry, I'd wait for the next big sale on the JBL Stage A or Infinity Reference speakers from the Harman website.

If you want something right now, I'd look at Emotiva speakers especially the C2+ center.
I found a v2f sub on eBay for 250. No real hurry but might get the center you recommend and and s50 or s55.
Need to get some rears too

Thank you.
Finally do you recommend anything for rear speakers? Or should I just use the in ceiling speakers

I'd just use the in-ceilings for now, so you can devote more budget to the much more critical front 3 and sub(s).

In the future, if you ever decide to do Atmos, you can always add bed-layer surrounds and use the in-ceilings for Atmos.

Good call.

Yes, they would be an excellent choice.

I use a 2080 with the entire Polk LSIM line for surround sound with movies and series. Definitely try the Surround AI setting on Yamaha for surround sound with movies. For music I do Pure direct through front two speakers only.
