Yamaha 867 or Denon 2112 or ?

1027 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  jjl4004
I've spent the last few days searching these forums and think I have it narrowed down to these 2. The 867 is $400 thru today, the 2112 is $450. Both inline with my budget. The cheap guy in me just wants to order the 867, but the logical guy says get the 2112 for the MultEQ XT. All of this stuff is new to me, all I need is 5.1, 3D, easy ipod connection, good power and sound/video quality. Don't need networking, streaming, etc.

Both meet your requirements so it's really a toss up. Each receiver has its advantages.

Yamaha - Preamp outputs, Build Quality, YPAO is manually adjustable but doesn't EQ the subwoofer.

Denon - Airplay, MultEQ XT will eq Subwoofer but you can't adjust the EQ curve manually.

It just comes down to which is more important to you. Remember the Yamaha's MSRP is about 250 more than the 2112 so it really is further up the line.

Nice TV. Have tried the new Panasonic 3D glasses? I found them at best buy and they are pretty sweet. Much more comfortable than the ones from last year.

EDIT: I forgot another advantage for the Denon is multiple crossovers while the Yamaha only has one.

Dont you have to buy an iPod dock for the 867? I don't think its connectivity is as easy as the Denon which has a front USB port.

No I haven't - TV is still in the box waiting for the basement to be done. Probably 2 more weeks. Can't wait. Thanks for the advise.
I just was going through the same decision between the V867 and 2112ci. I decided on the 2112ci. I did a write up this morning and put it in a thread I started a while back when I started my AVR search.

Here's a linkjust go to the 2nd page for my thoughts on the two:

I don't think you can go wrong with either one thoughI just chose the 2112ci based mostly on Audyssey MultEQ XT.
