So,

My system is a 5.1 and consists of the following:

Polk monitor 70 fronts

Polk Cs2 Center

Polk monitor 60 rears

1 Epic Empire

I have the option to purchase the Yamaha A3000 for $1200 shipped or the Denon 4311ci for $1459 shipped. Which would you choose? Or do I wait for the Onkyo 5008 to drop in price?

It is good that prices are dropping.

Are you running your video through them?

Yes, im running my video through them. Im sorta just looking at "bang for buck", being a $269 price difference, I figured it would be an easy decision (leaning more towards the yamaha). But wanted to get opinions first

wow, thata a great price "Yamaha A3000 for $1200 shipped" Similar to the $2000 Z7 receiver 2 years ago and was almost $500 more 6 months ago. A lot less than I paid.

They are both very popular but the denon 4311 clearly eq's dual subs better if you care to use this feature. Amp wise in 2 channel mode they are similar but when using 7 or 9 channels the denon has more power. I have run lots of 4ohm speakers very loud with no problem on the 4311. There is no info button on the 4311.

Did not check the specs, but I suspect the Polks are quite efficient. The difference in driving one with one receiver over another is really negligible IMO. The 3000 has good power as well as SQ.

I think you need to look closer at the other features (internet capability, video, etc. etc.) and the one with the fewest features that meets your needs is the one I would focus on.

Hello,

I would go with the 4311. Audyssey MultEQ XT32/SubEQ HT are fantastic. I cannot believe just how well it works in my HT. You also have 2 additional channels of amplification as well. The only thing I am not a huge fan of with the Denon is the Remote Control.

Cheers,

I'm just confused why the NR3008 isn't part of the discussion(which dropped in price much lower than either 3000 or 4311).

The 3009 is right around the corner, so it will drop even more.

Onkyo is going to have a field day till January. The 3009 competing with the 4311...no contest. 3009.

Heck, you can almost have the 5008(thanks to the 5009 right around the corner) for the price of the 4311.

What new features does the 3009 have?

Nobody really knows yet...however...

It has been rumored that more speaker posts are joining the party so you can hook up "all variations" of speaker set you "might want to do" and just change them on the fly. (like hooking up zone 2 and 3, then running 7.1 with height or width...where before you had to choose which way to wire, now you just hook up all those variations)

Wouldn't be surprised if Onkyo brings height and wide together at the same time either.

If the DTR 80.3 comes with the ability to run a 5.1 and a 5.0 at the same time(yeah 2nd zone 5.0 would rock for those wanting to do an outside porch system)...then the 3009/5009 might do that as well.

Since nobody else has a current "top dog", a rumored 90.3 had been in the mix(however that would be a LONG SHOT).

The 3009/5009 are both supposed to be 11.2 (which would allow 7.1 with height and width or the 2nd zone 5.0)

Custom installers have been asking for Zone 2 5.0(at least as pre-outs) for a couple of years. If anybody is going to do it...it is Integra. (even if Zone 2 5.0 was relegated to only being DPL II, it would still be a boon)

Ok, I didn't think there had been anything official yet. I thought maybe there was some big new feature coming to the 3009 that would make it that much better than the 4311. NEO X is the only thing I've heard. Since you said it was no contest I thought there was something I was missing. I'm sure the 3009 will be sweet but there will still be plenty of people buying the Denon 4311 or waiting for the new 43xx to come out. I know I would take the 4311 over the 3008 or 5008 but there is not enough info about the 3009/5009 to say for sure.

Do you guys think $1459 shipped is a price to jump on right now for the 4311ci? or should I wait for it to drop more?

Hello,

That is a really good price on the Denon. If open to the 5008, it is certainly an excellent alternative. I could not be happier with my TX-NR3008. That being said, it seems you are leaning towards the Denon and it is an excellent choice.

If by fluke you could find an A100 for a similar price, I would jump on that just to get the 5 Year Warranty and I do prefer the Industrial Design of these Anniversary Edition Denons.

Yeah that's a good price. I've heard there is supposed to be a new 43xx in early 2012. Ive heard January. I went ahead and got the 3311 for now but once the new model comes out I would expect the 4311 to drop down. I don't think it will get much lower before december but that's just a guess.
