Hello,

I have a Yamaha RX-V379BL and a brand new TCL 49S517 that I bought just recently. The TV works great and it does connect to the receiver just fine, however I've noticed a bit of odd behavior I was wondering if I could get some assistance on.

When the TV is first turned on, it does turn the receiver on without issue using the ARC port, however you are unable to hear anything after it is turned on. Looking at the receiver, it says AV1 or TV1 (don't remember which, just means it's connected to the TV) and that's really all.

To get sound working, I need to change the output on the receiver to something Other than the TV, and once it changes it turns on "CinemaDSP". After CinemaDSP is on, I can hit the TV button on the receiver's remote, CinemaDSP will stay on, and all sound from the TV now works.

The question is, how do I get it to turn CinemaDSP on all the time when the TV is on, without the need to change the input every time?

Thank you!

Sounds like you have an ARC/ CEC incompatibility, which is not uncommon. It's usually caused by the CEC portion, of which there is very little you can do. I have an older RX-V371 for the downstairs HTS and the older LCD tv. Everything goes thru the receiver with just a single HDMI out to the tv for video. ARC/CEC is disabled and I just use a Harmony remote to control the system (tv, receiver, bd player, and ATV4). I don't bother with the various DSP programs and just have the receiver set to Straight so I can get audio as originally encoded without any enhancements.

The upstairs HTS is an OLED (65 C8) and that too uses a new Yamaha receiver as the hub and is connected in a similar fashion. However, I use an optical cable for local HDTV audio only because I need to connect the legacy Comcast STB directly to the tv because I need to disable Deep Color on that HDMI input. Otherwise, it is is the same, as single HDMI cable going to the tv for video with ARC/CEC disabled and a Harmony remoter to control the system (tv, receiver, UHD/BD player, and an ATV4k). It does make a difference on which input you use on the receiver so read the manual.

I did actually figure out the issue. So with the audio settings on the TV, it was set to "Auto Detect". There's an option to manually set DTS as the audio, and it started to output DTS to the receiver and worked without issues now!

Thank you for the hint!
