I have pretty much decided on replacing my current 3 year old Yamaha receiver (mostly because I want the cross conversion to component from s-video on my VCR and want the Pro Logic IIx) and think another Yammy is want I want.

My question is for the same money (more-or-less) I can get the new RX-V1500 or the proven HTD 5790.

I don't have a clue as to which one is better? I enjoy my home theater, but am not a 'guru' by any means.

Thanks for any thoughts you guys may have.

Oh, I guess I would consider another brand if I could get something better for the same cost.

You would be a lot better off with a Denon 3800 in that price range. It has all the cross conversion and PLxx you need and much more. At least go listen to one, you might like the sound better. The Yahamas are pretty good too, so regardless of what you decide you will love it. Welcome to the fourm.
