That's equivalent to the RX-V767 so yeah its a good receiver. Canadian prices are higher than here in the USA for audio equipment so I'd say its a good buy.

another receiver in that price range is the Denon 891

The Yamaha has the advantage of preouts on the back so you can connect an external amp for more power. I like Denon's Audyssey room calibration over Yamaha's YPAO because Audyssey also EQ's the subwoofer. Plus the Denon has the USB input for iPod/iPhone with on screen display.

Either receiver would be a good choice, just depends what features you want. Take your pick.

I recently was looking for a receiver with two hdmi out. This was the best deal that has that and preouts. I am quite happy with it. I am running a 5.1 setup with dahlquist qx-10(4ohm) speakers in the bi-amp mode.I haven't tested it at ref volume but very close to it and everything seems OK. However, we normally run it at much lower volume. I would call it one of the best values now considering it has 6 hdmi in /2 out, 7.1 pre out, 8 channel line in, hdmi 1.4 for 3d. Those who need more power could use some power amps and it will easily power the surround backs. Considering the price, it is excellent.
