All,

Thanks in advanc for a prompt reply,

This is the very first post to the site... Basically out of despiration. Not an AV guy-just bought some components to enjoy a few movies. Maybe a bit more than I bargined for...

In searching the web this is a commmon problem. When hooking from the cable box (motorola dcx 3200) via hdmi to AV (Yamaha rx-v465)

av hdviout to hdvi in on Samsung HMDI in produces great picture but audio cuts out.( very frequently seconds appart)

In reading I found that there was updated versionof firmware available. I have successfully updated the firmware-same problem. In reading the cable box manual. As recommended I was able to set the cable box as pass through. -Still Same problem

On this site it sounds like it is possible to set the yamaha as "pass through"

it also mentions that you can use the HDMI video and set the system to use the optical digital sound instead. who has overcome this problem and can you provide instructions to walk me through. I need this resolved and I have no more hair to pull out. She wanted a Bose lifestyle system so if I don't get this straight I'll be in the dog house

I have attemped to use the component method same problem... only have problem when passing cable broadcast through receiver. Blue ray via HDMI, both audio and video is fantastic! (per my uneducated eyes and ears)

System info:

HD motorola dcx 3200 CABLE BOX

Yamaha RX-V465

5/ 5.1 KLIPSCH QUINTET SPEAKERS

KLIPSCH subwoofer (10)

LG 390 BlueRay

Samsung LCD/LED

Please help!

I need to confirm something. If you hook the cable box up to the receiver with component for video and optical for audio, you have the same sort of dropouts?

I have not yet tried an optical along with the component cable to the receiver yet. I took the optical cable back, and exchanged it for an HDMI cable. I'll have to run up and grab one to test. Only tried component video with coaxial (nor have I tried an optical with the HDMI cable)

I suspect it will give me the same problem, I think the component scenario above is still sending a digital signal. I will still give it a try.

Thanks,

Coxial is pretty much the same circuit. No need to test if you have not.

In that case, I would think it's the cable box if everything else works

Ok, cable box was hopefully eliminated as a problem.

I am still unsure of something. If you connect a digital audio connection (not HDMI) does it correct the audio issue or not?

Have you tried a different HDMI input? It should not matter in theory (all inputs go to one HDMI chip,) but it's worth trying I guess.

Is it on all channels?

Blu-ray works, just not cable?

It's possible it's the 465. But if Blu-ray works perfectly, you would think your digital audio signal path is working perfectly. Cable and HDMI are problematical sometimes especially with a receiver between the cable box and the TV. Which is why I suggest component video, and S/PDIF (coax or optical,) as a workaround.

I don't suggest the Bose system. I think it's overpriced for what you get. I think many here would agree. They also seem to lack flexibility. I am not sure how great the frequency response is either because the sats are so small, I suspect you get a hole between your sub and sats, but I don't know that for a fact.

I went and exchanged the 465 with a new one... same problem

Fed up, I took the 465 back and bought a different brand receiver "Denon"

Every thing works fine now...

From reading posts it appears that some folks experienced the same problem. It's possible that the Yamaha and Motorolado do not communicate that well. Perhaps there are different settings on the Yamaha that I am not aware of. Yamaha lost a customer. (poor customer support from them by the way)

Thanks

Hi, I also had same issue where sound get cut off periodically with yamaha rxv565 and motorola cable box dcx3200. I had tried stereo cable and digital output with same issue. Bluray and other devices work fine. Unfortunately, I can no longer return this YAMAHA receiver. I recommend people not to get YAMAHA if you have comcast cable box dcx3200.

Pain in the butt to go through isn't it...

Even upgraded firmware in hope to solve problem.

You may have to run 2 HDMI

One straight to the TV from the cable box

other devices can go through the Yamaha

Bummer to hear that it is too late to return

I know this is off topic, but i'm trying to find a current rx-v465 thread

I'm trying to change inputs to the Scene function so that I can turn devices on and off with one touch.

I have my satellite in scene 1 and DVD Player in scene 2, they are routed thru HDMI 1 and 2

I can select HDMI 1 and 2 and press the source power and the boxes will turn on, but I can not figure out the right combination to assign them to the scene buttons.

Here's what it says in the manual.

Register the remote control code of an external component to the desired input source (I did that)

Press Input Selection keys on the remote control for the input source whose remote control code was registered in step 1 for about 3 seconds while pressing down SCENE key whose assignment you want to change.

I've tried different possible combos of the above (holding both simultaneously, one for 3 seconds then the other, etc.) and I can't get it to work.

It will turn on the amp to the proper input, but no joy for the external sources.

If you can help, thanks in advance.

I also have an RX-V565 connected to AT&T U-verse DVR (Motorola VIP1216) and am having the same issue - a random brief chop in the audio every few seconds (sometimes goes a couple of minutes without doing it... WOOHOO!). My Blu-ray player works fine. I tried swapping the cable box's HDMI input with the dvd player's, as well as swapping HDMI cables. Problem followed the cable box. I read somewhere that there is some kind of incompatibility between the Motorola cable box and this receiver. Either that, or it has to do with HDMI 1.1 vs 1.3. At any rate, Yamaha tech support could not help me, and I have looked all over the web for a solution without any success. I also read on one site that I should be able to use HDMI for video and fiber for audio but have not been able to find out how to do this. As my unit is only a couple of weeks old, I believe I will box it up and take it back to the store to exchange for a different unit.

Hi doggit, before you return the receiver and get another or different receiver and end up with the same problem, read this from Utalk ( Audio Drop Outs ).

I realize I'm reviving an old thread, but for future reference, anyone having the same symptoms as described in the first post may want to adjust the cable box's audio properties as follow:

1. With your remote control, enter the audio setup menu by choosing Menu>TV Gide Main Menu (the little house icon)>Setup>Audio Setup.

2. then set Audio Output to "Advanced", Compression to "Light", and Stereo Output to "Matrix".

And no more clipping. My system experienced the exact same symptoms as described in the first post and the cable company also replaced the cable box, to no avail. I then stumbled onto this audio set up menu while playing with the remote control and the menu structure, adjusted the settings, and started to enjoy perfect sound. Good luck.

System:

Motorola DCX3200 cable box

Yamaha RX-V1600 A/V receiver

Digital optical cable interconnection

I found a fix for this that worked for me. Don't ask why I tried it but it worked! I put a HDMI switcher between the cable-box and the Yamaha HDMI input. I am not sure why it works but it does. The audio was actually clearer and the center channel responded better. An hdmi switch is about $25. Good Luck!
