Hi All-

Here is my conundrum (I'm sure it's extremely simple, but I'm no A/V expert), hope you all can shine some light.

I currently have a Yamaha RX-V365 receiver (which doesn't accept HDMI Audio), I am attempting to connect my Samsung BD-P3600 Blu Ray player through my surround sound system but I can't get sound to go through my receiver, only through my TV speakers.

I know that I need to use an optical audio connection from the BluRay to either the Receiver, Cable Box or TV - but which is it? I've tried a handful of connections and can't get it to work.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You have several options on how to connect and configure your system. So here are some possibilites:

Option #1:

P3600 video --> HDMI cable --> V365

P3600 audio --> 5.1 Multi cables --> V365 or use Optical cable --> V365 (connect both if possible)

Cable Box video --> HDMI cable --> V365

Cable Box audio --> Optical cable --> V365

Then V365 --> HDMI cable --> Tv

Option #2:

P3600 video --> HDMI cable --> Tv

P3600 audio --> 5.1 Multi cables --> V365 or use Optical cable --> V365 (connect both if possible)

Cable Box video --> HDMI cable --> Tv

Cable Box audio --> Optical cable --> V365

Option #3:

P3600 video --> HDMI cable --> V365

P3600 audio --> 5.1 Multi cables --> V365 or use Optical cable --> V365 (connect both if possible)

Then V365 --> HDMI --> Tv

Cable Box video --> HDMI --> Tv

Cable Box audio --> Optical cable --> V365
