Hi all,

i would like to ask for a help how to fix an issue with my yamaha receiver,

i have the following connections,

music coming from a PC to a focusrite saffire sound card,

from the focusrite saffire the connection goes to allen & heath xone 42 dj mixer,

from the allen & heath xone 42 mixer i have 3 outputs going to

1 active studio monitors,

2 active pa speakers

3 yamaha rx-v573 av receiver (using 2 front speakers and sub)

i use these 3 sets of speakers separately for their purpose,

but sometimes i like to put them all 3 at the same time,

at first i didnt had any issues,

all three sets were going in sync when music played,

now i have the first 1 and 2 in sync and the 3 yamaha receiver slightly off sync

the yamaha is off sync with the 1 and 2 speakers if i use the 2ch stereo setup in music mode (and in any mode with the sub on)

only if i engage the receiver in direct mode the sound is back in sync with the 1 and 2 , but than i dont have the sub

i havent changed anything in the setup so cannot really tell what made this difference

i tried connecting from the focusrite saffire sound card straight to the receiver but the delay is still there and it's out of sync with speakers 1 and 2,

so hope for some help how to bring the receiver back in sync with the other speakers when i have the sub on together with the front speakers,

thanx in advance

hi,
i cannot be the only one using this type of connections (dj mixer with three outputs to three sets of speakers in one room)
:)
so any input would be welcome,
because i have the sound on the receiver out of sync with the sound of the other two pairs (noted 1 and 2 ) in any mode selected (2ch stereo, straight....)  and it's in sync only when i select direct mode it makes me think that there is some processing inside the receiver that makes this small lag to be out of sync,
what can i select on the yamaha to have a simple 2.1 setup for music sound?
is it recommended to do a reset of the amplifier?
(because before i didn't had any lag between the receiver and the other two pairs of speakers- everything was in sync)
well hope for some tips,
thanks

Direct mode is the only thing that will work. You are correct that there is some processing going on inside, and this is normal for AVRs. The bass management and crossover required to run the sub are digital processes. It's not like the old days when bass and treble were adjusted with analog pots, and the sub out was just a full-frequency mono output.

(The real mystery is how you managed to play them all in sync at the beginning, but perhaps you just hadn't noticed the delay.)

Anyway back to your problem. The only way I can think of is to rewire your sub. If you are using an analog audio input from the mixer, you might try connecting the sub to the AV OUT jacks instead of the SUBWOOFER jack. You'll need a Y cable combiner if the sub has only one channel RCA input. Or if your sub has speaker-level inputs, you could connect it that way and run the speakers from it.

What kind of sub do you have?

hi JBWIII,

thanks for the reply,

well now it works in sync with the other 2 pairs (active studio monitors and active pa speakers) only in direct mode,

that way is all good and in sync but i dont have the sub that is connected to the yamaha that way (it sends audio only to the fromt l & R speakers),

before i had the settings on  straight or in 2ch stereo mode on the Yamaha rx-v573,

and i had the sub in use on the yamaha  and it was all in sync,

i'm an 35 year old dj & music producer and i notice quite well simple things like when sound is out of sync between different pairs,

so  all was great and in sync between three different setups of speakers and one day the yamaha rx-v573 has this problem going slightly out of sync with the rest (the monitors and pa speakers still goes together in sync)

so

the type of connections are following,

I have 3 HDMI inputs for 2 PC,s and one XBOX 360 to the Yamaha and one HDMI out to an LED TV (no ARC and no Anynet in use i have an optical cable from tv to av4)

than the important part

i have the sound from the allen & heath xone 42 mixer going with analog rca cable  to the yamaha rx-v573 audio input,

i have the velodyne impact  12 sub woofer connected on subwoofer with Y cable to the yamaha and than dual rca going into the sub, (method recomended by velodyne manual)

i can try connecting the sub with dual rca cable to the AV OUT jacks on the Yamaha like you suggested,

will i still use the yamaha subwoofer settings like the crossover and YPAO that i have now on the yamaha?

or i need to use the crossover from the velodyne and set it there (i have it now set to maximum on the sub  because on the yamaha is set on 80hz)

because thats the method for crossover  if i connect the sub with speaker-level inputs and run the speakers from it.

i will try these 2 methods tomorrow,

but i cannot understand what happened and what caused this,

it was all working good for 5-6 months,

i use same connections, same setup, i only changed the TV in between  but i have simple HDMI out-in and optical out-in connection between the yamaha and the samsung tv and no arc, anynet.......

and one day it just shows this small out of sync......

so logic says it must be something that needs to be reset in the yamaha to get back in track, not new methods of wiring

is it a unit resetting recommended?

cheers

When you set the AVR to Direct mode, there will be no crossover made inside the receiver. (In fact nothing that YPAO sets--speaker size, crossover, distance or PEQ--will be used.) It will output the full range to both front speakers (and to the sub via the AUDIO OUT if you connect it that way). So you will have to adjust the crossover on the sub. You might also have to adjust the volume on the sub, since I think that the AUDIO OUT jack is a line-level output that doesn't vary with the speaker volume.

One long-shot idea before you re-wire the sub is to perform a factory reset and then don't run YPAO. Disable anything that might add additional processing--Enhancer, Bass/Treble adjustment, Cinema DSP, EQ, all of it. Maybe you can get closer to the response time of the Direct mode without actually switching to it.

hi JBWIII

so

i did the INIT (restoring the default setting) on the Yamaha

and than i did the YPAO test and setting again,

didnt rewire anything,

i got it working in sync again with the subwoofer on,

but i need to switch the Equalizer from PEQ (goes offsync again) to GEQ (like this is in sync with the other 2 pairs of speakers)

also i need to keep it in 2ch stereo mode in music, if i switch to Straight mode goes off sync again,

so generally i wanted to have it in sync like before with PEQ and in Straight mode,

but like it is now  i will switch those on when i just use the Yamaha for listening ,

and when i want Yamaha, Studio speakers and Pa Speakers all on at same time i switch them off and it's all good and in sync,

just wondering if anything else  i can try?

if i try to rewire to hi level speakers inputs on the velodyne sub i will still miss the PEQ equilizer - YPAO settings right?

thanks

I cannot think of anything else. Certain functions are going to require internal processing, and they're going to cause delays. For what it's worth, I used YPAO at first and didn't like how it sounded so I just leave my speakers flat now. Don't think that you need to use PEQ (or any EQ for that matter) if you like how the system sounds without it.
