I have a Yamaha RX-V673 AV Receiver with RAV472 remote.

Recently, the remote has stopped working correctly. One significant issue is that the adjustment of the volume "sticks" (so far I've been lucky and have not blown speakers) . Other times selecting input or mute etc. requires multiple selects for action to be recognized.

One tap of the up or down volume button results in a flash of the orange receiver light on the remote followed by the green source light being illuminated for for 4-5 seconds as the volume goes to max/min.

Is this likely a remote problem or a receiver problem?
Is this a know issue?
If so, is there a known fix?

Thanks,
K

Easiest way to test is to press the sticking button and cover up the remote. If the receiver stops responding the instant the remote is covered up then it is the remote. You can also remove the batteries when it goes wild to disable the remote and see if the receiver stops or continue.

If it's the remote, the stuck buttons are usually indicative of something spilled on it. You can buy replacement remotes, or you can buy a universal remote like a harmony.

depending on how stuck it is. Take the batteries out and use a q-tip with iso alcohol. Just drench it. It will break up whatever is gunking up the button.

Will also strip any lubrication that was on there so will shorten the life of the switch in the long run maybe. And that gunk has to go some where coroding things in the remote. But at this point better than buying a new one.
