Hi guys,

I just purchased a set of Polk Monitor 40. I am running this with an old Yamaha HTR-5440 receiver that I have lying around. So far this is getting hooked up to a LG LV3500 37" TV. My question is I am looking for a center and was wondering between the two speakers(soundbar vs center) which will give me a better dialogue and surround overall? Wattage wise the Yamaha soundbar is 3x50W and the Polk Center is 150W. I know the watts is probably negligible but the Yamaha uses 3 smaller speakers vs Polk using 2 large speakers.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but this is my first home entertainment system I am piecing together.

If you want to stick with the Monitor 40's for the front then you want a matching center.

The Polk CS2 would be the better choice and is in the same model line. You can still get them.

However, if you're looking to upgrade to a current speaker line and have a completely matched HT ... there are many good options in the budget price range.

Yes...go with the CS2 to match your Monitor40's, but try to get a sub to make your set up to a 3.1 and this will make a big difference. I am pretty sure that after a while, you will upgrade to a 5.1 set-up.
